iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 567 comments Welcome to our Ramadan Reading Challenge!

This month, we've decided to change things up, and the challenge is in the form of a bingo card - whoever completes one row, then one card, wins!

Of course, the dates for Ramadan are never certain, but don't worry - we'll be sending a broadcast on the first and last days to let you know. Currently, Ramadan will start around the 2nd/3rd of April and end on the 1st/2nd of May.

Here is the bingo card:

If the image doesn't show up/if it’s too blurry, here is another link to view it: https://www.canva.com/design/DAE8FxOA...

As you can tell, each of the prompts are related in some way to Ramadan - some more obvious (e.g. Muslim MC), and some less so (e.g. involves a journey). If anyone wants to know more about the meanings behind the prompts, feel free to ask!

Note - you must complete either a vertical or horizontal row - diagonals can't be used. Also, only one prompt can be used per book.

Of course, it's not always possible to complete all the prompts, so there will also be the opportunity to score points:

Completing a prompt: 20 points
Reviewing a book: 20 points
Reading the BOTM: 10 points
Buddy reading a book: 10 points
1-100 pages: 5 points
101-200 pages: 10 points
201-300 pages: 20 points
301-400 pages: 30 points
401-500 pages: 40 points
500-600 pages: 50 points

Please log your books in both your personal log and the universal log like this:

By the way, for the reading some Quran prompt, is that a card for if we read some Quran, or for reading a book where a character does so?

If it's the first one is there a certain amount to read to qualify for the bingo spot, like one juz' for example? I assume it's not the whole book since it says "some"

Oh yes, I forgot to clarify that one
The prompt is about reading Qur'an - translations count too, of course not everyone can read Arabic.
If I'm honest, there isn't any specific amount needed to qualify for it.
If you're Muslim, the likelihood is that you'll be reading Qur'an throughout the month, though the amount may differ so anything from 1 Juz + should be fine.
For any non-Muslims, the fact that you're actually reading the Qur'an is amazing, so even just 1 Surah would be fine (if you are a non-Muslim who decides to use this prompt, just ask me directly).

Lia | 37 comments What is "free space" mean? And how do I make a review for Quran?

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Free space means you don't have to do anything for it, you can just fill it in for free.

As for the Quran, I would assume that if you wanted to add a review for the challenge maybe you could just discuss whatever surah you read that day, or talking about your favourite one? I don't think a review is necessary though, it just gives extra points.

Saraf Tarisha | 72 comments The prompt "about family" - can books about finding family be used? Or like classics like Pride and Prejudice, Little Woman?
And the prompt "about helping others" - what type of books can be used?

message 30: by iamaunicornwithyellowfeet, Milksheikh (new)

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 567 comments About family - the book centres on a family, whether it be siblings, parent-child relationships etc. so yeah like little women

message 31: by iamaunicornwithyellowfeet, Milksheikh (new)

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 567 comments About helping others - anything that involves providing help/aid to other people e.g. I read a book called refugee boy, where a group of people were trying to help the boy and his dad seek asylum in England and not get deported

Saraf Tarisha | 72 comments I didn't understand the last prompt book about books. Will books like "The Book of Lost Names" work?

message 34: by iamaunicornwithyellowfeet, Milksheikh (new)

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 567 comments For the last prompt you can read any book that features a book in some form, e.g. the book thief because she steals books

Yes, from what I’ve seen that book should work
