Stephen King Fans discussion

Hi there, i was wondering if anyone could suggest me that book to fall in love with King and continue reading. I’ve only read Carrie, and I’m currently reading Mr Mercedes’. I own quite a few books by him that I just need to get around to, so please recommend me that book which will (in your opinion) make me read more king. Thank you 😃

do you like mr mercedes so far? if you do, you should read billy summers & the institute by king. the institute is also one of my favorites.

Hi lex! Thanks for replying, I’ve not heard about the dead zone I’ll check it out 😃, I own both pet Semetary and the institute so I’ll definitely consider it, yeah I’m liking Mr Mercedes’ right now nearly half way through and ive heard it gets better!

Hey nick. I also own Salems lot. I have been putting that of for quite a while now so maybe it’s time to start it!

My first King was The Stand and I've never looked back. That being said, I like HUGE books and that was definitely is, so if you're looking for something slightly smaller: The Green Mile. Just make sure you have a huge box of tissue because I have never cried so hard in a book in my life. :)
Neither of these is so much on the horror side of things, and I actually prefer his more "non-horror" books but if you are more into the that then I must agree that Salems Lot is your best bet!

Hey Alicia, yeah I’ve never read anything over 400 pages! The stand is something I am super scared to tackle if I come to it. Would like to read the green mile for sure, unfortunately I don’t own it at the moment. I’m thinking finishing of different seasons or salems lot.

Of course I have to echo many people's sentiment regarding Mr. King's, "The Stand" (a true seminal work and a very "easy" read!) But please allow me to suggest a (somewhat) "early" work entitled, "Different Seasons". The novellas in this book ("The Body", Shawshank Redemption" et al.) "should" be somewhat familiar (as they have been adapted for film etc.) These are true "beauties"!

I'm a big fan of the Dark Tower Saga, so I would definitely recommend The Gunslinger.

I would recommend the shining and then doctor sleep! Then you can watch the movies as well. (Doctor sleep is so well done for a new age movie)

Misery is also an incredible book.

For me, it was The Green Mile. I'd also recommend Pet Sematary, The Shining, and Misery! They'll keep you hooked and hoping for the next amazing work.

For me IT was one of my favourite books when I was young and still is. But it was the Outsider, The Shining, The Stand and Misery that really got me hooked onto Stephen King. Now he is my favourite author and I own all of his books mainly in Hardback.

Lots of great first recommendations here. King has gone into a thriller genre the past several years steering himself away from traditional horror. With that said I’ll recommend two books.

Some are on the right track here. Others not so much. For you, a young person just staring out with reading, the answer is obvious: THE TALISMAN!

My niece spent the weekend with me and was fascinated with my King collection. She had never read any of his work, and has seen only Misery and Carrie of the movies. We watched The Green Mile yesterday (3 hours and 8 minutes!!!) and she was a sobbing mess when it was over. She went home with copies of that, Different Seasons and Carrie. I'm hoping I helped create a new Constant Reader!

I started re-reading 'Salem's Lot last night and literally couldn't put it down until my eyelids force-quit. I don't know how I forgot about how much I enjoyed it during the first read, but I know I can't forget about how much the two-part miniseries scared the life out of me when I first watched it! Definitely the King title that sent me down an SK rabbit hole and began my collection of macabre novels.

I am reading his short stories called Night Shift. But I recommend Pet Semetary, The Shining, Salem's Lot,Misery and 11/22/63:).
