Ellen | 3511 comments James Bowen had no idea how the little ginger cat he found in his apartment building was going to change his life. Growing up, James had lived in many different homes and even different continents until he was in his late teens. Leaving his mother and stepfather in Australia, James travelled back to England where he had been born. Unfortunately, James fell into a life of drugs and homelessness only able to earn money by busking with his guitar on street corners. He knew this lifestyle would eventually kill him so he began a drug treatment program and rehab. Then he met 'Bob', a sickly and starving young cat that James immediately felt an affinity to. He took Bob to a vet for medicine and soon the cat was healthy and ready for his new life with James. Bob willingly walked on a leash and was James' constant companion as James played his guitar for whatever money strangers might give him. Soon, Bob became the focus of passersby and the tips became much larger along with many a gift for Bob. When James decided to quit the methadone treatment and go cold turkey it was Bob who was able to soothe his friend and comfort him during some terrible days. They definitely saved each other's lives. It's a lovely story of second chances. I do remember a sweet movie that was made several years ago that I enjoyed as well.

Doughgirl5562 | 960 comments I bought this book about a decade ago in London as a souvenir of my trip. It is such a sweet and inspiring story, especially for a cat lover like me. Haven't had the chance to see the movie or read the book sequels yet, but they are definitely on my list.

Bob passed away a few years ago.

LibraryCin | 11685 comments I read this a couple of months ago, as well. Also really enjoyed it. I had to look up Bob and James after and discovered (as Lynne mentioned) that Bob did pass away. There are some nice videos, though, including an unveiling of a statue of Bob.
