"monument to a government of service and duty and has been praised for its "exquisite accent and its infinite tenderness.
The scene depicts Irving sitting on a bench outdoors in the winter watching a bald eagle fly over and then petting his dog. The camera is below him giving the character a sense of grand nobility and wisdom also the notion that he is a tender man to be kind to his dog and yet you sense that he is preoccupied with deep thoughts on philosophical subjects.
