This folder can be used to nominate for our next read. In our cycle of types of reads, we are up to Catholic Classics. Please nominate a book that is considered a Catholic Classic. Our rough definition of Catholic Classic is the following. First it gas to be a work concerning Catholicism, as all books read for Catholic Thought Book Club. Second it has to be a classic, which roughly means it has to be at least a hundred years old. If it's still around after a 100 years, it has to have some sort of classic value. Another criteria we have used is that it has to be in the public domain, or available cheaply, say under a few dollars.

We'll take a week to nominate, a week to vote, and a week to acquire the book before we officially start reading.

OK, I will nominate first. I nominate John Henry Newman's (now St. John Henry Newman) Apologia Pro Vita Sua.

It was published in 1924 which actually makes it 98 years old. Close enough! Thank you Celia, it’s nominated.

Madeleine Myers | 751 comments The Secret of the Rosary, by St. Louis De Montfort, whose feast day just happened. I have had the book on my Kindle for at least two years. I discovered the power of daily rosaries when my son was going through an awful divorce, and the way my particular prayer as answered was so amazing I have kept up the habit, although I am far from being as devout as I should be, and just learned that the Fatima children said all fifteen decades (before the luminous were introduced). I struggle often just to get in the daily five without praying in autopilot or mal my it my sleeping pill. I am also challenging myself to finally read this book.

OK, that's five nominations. I think that's enough. I'll set up the poll on Sunday.

If I did it correctly, I have posted the poll for this read. You can find it here:

Let me know if there are any issues. I am a clutz on these things.

I should add, all the nominations are interesting. I would be interested in any of them.
