1.3 (Amber's Task ) CHILDREN CLASSIC: The Boxcar Children

Choose ONE of the following:

This was one of my favorite books and I went on to read the series. Originally published in 1924, the book is about 4 siblings who have lost their parents. Rather than be separated they create a home out of an abandoned boxcar and whatever items they could find or were given. They did small odd jobs to earn money for things like milk.
a) Read a book where someone creates something (tell us what)

I read it repeatedly while in early Elementary school. I had a friend in my neighborhood who had a plastic kitchen set in her backyard next to a small creek. We would play like we were the Boxcar Children. We would make mudpies and wash the dishes in the creek. Those are some of my fondest childhood memories.
b) Read a book with a kitchen or dishes on the cover (show cover)

May is National Asparagus Month in the United States. Asparagus is naturally green, but if you cover it before it sprouts, it will grow out white.

1.9 (Amber's task) The Reading Jar: IN HONOR OF MY MOM

I got my love of reading from my Mom. She always read to me until I learned to read myself. Growing up I always remember any time she was able to sit for a minute she had a book in her hand.
In honor of her:

This holiday commemorates Mexico's defeat of the French forces at the Battle of Puebla. It is actually celebrated more in the US than in Mexico.
1. Read a book set in either France or Mexico

2. Read a book by an author whose first and last initials are in BATTLE OF PUEBLA. (Middle initials may be ignored. Letters may be used only so often as they appear in the phrase.)

1. Read a book by a Female author whose first and last initials are in MOTHERS DAY (Middle initials may be ignored. Letters may be used only so often as they appear in the phrase.)

2. Read a book where the main character is a mother (tell us who)

3.2 (Pat's Task) NATIONAL MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH
Read 3 Books

Book 1 ~ Read a book (fiction or non-fiction) that is set in a war zone where at least one of the main characters sees combat action.

Book 2 ~ Read a book with a cover that is at least 75% colored in the colors of your national flag.
~ Tell what nation you live in.
example ~ I live in the United States, so 75% of my book will need to be red, white, and blue. Other colors may appear as long as they are less than 25% of the overall cover. I hope that makes sense.

Book 3 ~ Read a book that has all of the letters of WAR or HERO in the title.
