Shutter Island is the story of two US Marshalls who arrive on a remote island that houses a psychiatric prison in the 1950s. A patient has escaped, and they need to find her.

I enjoyed the story a lot more than I thought I would. I was afraid that since I've seen the movie, it'd be a bit of a let down, since I already knew the twist. Instead, knowing what was going to happen let me just enjoy the journey of the story, without worrying about the destination.

It's a well-written story with interesting characters, and I enjoyed being immersed in the time period. Definitely not my last time reading Lehane.

I freakin love this movie so much.
Because of that I've always wanted to read the book, but had reservations for the same reasons you thought you wouldn't enjoy it.

Might put this on the long list.

This is one of his best. I have read it several times and discussed it at two different book clubs. I love it. Love your review - you gave away nothing. I may go back and reread it now. Thanks for the review and reminding me of him and his book. peace, janz
