I'M TRYING TO LOCATE A BOOK (NOT BONE WITCH)

hi, this question has nothing to do with the book I've added- I just didn't know how to post a question without adding a book.
I'm trying to find the title of a book that I read a few years back. I know it is going to be hard to find, being that I don't remember that much about the details of the book but I will give you guys what I can.
For the most part, it was definitely fantasy and was probably a young adult book. The book was about a girl who had to go to some type of ceremony and she accidentally broke an important magic bone that was the key to the ceremony going right. Upon breaking this bone, she and her mother were pushed into this split universe and her mother had to heal the bone. During this time in the split universe, she got really close to this "scary" man who had a bunch of tattoos over his body that related to tragic experiences, and they fall in love. If I remember correctly, they even go to this place to study together to work on something I cant remember. They hated each other at first. It was part of the book for the people of the village to get odd-shaped tattoos when they have a tragic expereicene, she even got one.
I think her mother also dies near the end of the book. By the time the bone heals though, the world changes back to the way it was before.. everything she had learned was like she hadn't even though she remembered. And most importantly, her love for the boy was gone because he didn't remember anything. The world was shifted back to the world it was before she broke the bone.
I've been looking for this book for sooo long, I REALLY hope that someone might have read this book and can dig it up for me because I think there was supposed to be a second book, and the probably would be by now.
