20.1 - Most Improved Player - Paul's Task: Dancing With the Stars

No books with the MPG of children or kids may be used. A book with the main page genre of Graphic Novel, Sequential Art, Comics, Comic Book, or Manga may be used.
REQUIRED: state the option you chose
Option 1: read a book with an MPG of DANCE, MUSIC, or THEATER/THEATRE. The MPG can be standalone or embedded.

20.2 - Rookie at the Top - NO TASK
20.3 - Best Review-Kathy KS's Task: The Other Side of the Rainbow
Help Thread
The movie, Wizard of Oz, begins and ends in Kansas, my home state. Everything is NOT black and white in Kansas and most natives get a little tired of Oz jokes. But, there really is no place like home.
Pick one of the following options and read a book that meets the requirements. Books with the genres "Sequential Art", "Comics", "Comic Book", and "Manga" are allowed, as long as other SRC rules are followed.
Required: Identify the option.
Option 1. The original Oz books were written by L. Frank Baum, then were followed by many other series works written by other authors. Read a book whose author’s initials (all of them) can be found in his name: L FRANK BAUM. Books written by multiple authors may be used, but ALL of their combined initials must be in the phrase.
Option 2. A tornado is featured in the Wizard of Oz. Frankly, I’ve never personally seen one, but they have struck nearby. Other natural disasters seem to cover a much larger area and scare me more. Read a book that includes a natural disaster. If the disaster is not mentioned in the GR description, provide a link that provides that information. For a list of allowable natural disasters, see the Task Help or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural...
3. Kansas is known as the “Sunflower State.” Read a book with a sunflower on the cover. This must be identifiable as a type of sunflower (usually yellow petals and dark center), so no silhouettes are allowed.
Examples:
20.4 - Golden Oldies - Julia103's Task: A Group of Prides
Help Thread
The word “Pride” has several different usages. Choose one of the meanings from the below options. REQUIRED: Indicate in your post the option that you used.
Graphic novels/sequential art/comics allowed if it fits SRC requirements.
Option A. Pride is the collective noun for a group of lions. Read a book with more than one lion on the cover or with the word LIONS in the title (subtitles excluded).
If choosing the cover option, the picture can be stylized or realistic, but must be recognizable as lions.
Examples:
REQUIRED: Include the cover in your post.
If choosing the title, the word must be exact match (Plural only, not embedded or possessive): Examples: The Lions of Fifth Avenue, Lie Down with Lions.
Option B. June is Pride Month, celebrating LGBTQ+ history and culture.
Read a book with one of the following MPGs: gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, asexual, non-binary, or queer. MPGs can be stand-alone or embedded.
Option C. A more traditional meaning of pride is “a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.” (dictionary.com). This meaning is illustrated by Mr. Darcy in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
Read Pride and Prejudice or a book that is a re-telling, prequel or sequel of Pride and Prejudice or focuses on one or more of the characters from Pride and Prejudice.
For purposes of this task, a re-telling is one that mentions Pride and Prejudice in the book description, mentions it in a review on the main page, or has the MPG "Retelling."
Examples: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (retelling), Death Comes to Pemberley (sequel), The Secret Life of Miss Mary Bennet (Mary is one of the five Bennett sisters in the original story)
REQUIRED: If it is not clear from the book description how this fits the task, please include an explanation.
20.5 - Bigger Is Better - Book Concierge’s Task: Family Vacations
Help Thread
Required Book must be a minimum of 250 pages
Restrictions - NO books with main page genre “Childrens” or “kids.”
My parents didn’t have a lot of money, but we always managed to take a family vacation each summer. Memories of those vacations inspired this task.
Option A: Probably our most often used vacation plan was camping. There were a couple of state parks fairly near to us, and it was a low-cost option. As kids, my brothers and I loved being outdoors, going swimming, hiking, fishing, etc. Having gone camping a couple of times as an adult, I now realize just how much WORK this was for my parents!
• Read a book with an outdoor nature scene on the cover, including water scenes. No buildings should be visible. Animals and people are fine." REQUIRED: Post the COVER.
Option B: A couple of times we took advantage of vacation time to visit relatives who lived in other cities, states or even Mexico. I loved getting together with these cousins, especially the ones in California and Mexico because we rarely saw them.
• Read a book that is set at least 50% in either California or Mexico. If the setting is not in the metadata or main page description, cite a reference to prove location.
Option C: All vacations, whether long or short, were driving vacations. And Daddy did virtually ALL the driving. We’d leave on Friday evening to take advantage of as many hours of vacation time as possible. After he got home from work, he’d pack up the car and off we would go, Daddy driving all night, while the rest of us slept in the car.
• Read a book by a MALE author whose first and last initials are in ROAD TRIP.
Option D: Our last family vacation occurred when I graduated from college. My parents and brothers drove up to Wisconsin for the ceremony and afterwards we drove “the long way” back … visiting Indianapolis, the Smokey Mountains, and New Orleans before returning to Texas. The big difference on this trip is that my oldest brother and I shared the driving responsibilities with Dad.
• Read a book with a main page genre of FAMILY.
20.6 - It's a Fact - Trishhartuk's Task: Hugos Season
Help Thread
A fair amount of my June-August reading time is taken up with the nominees for the Hugo Awards, which are voted for by the members of the World Science Fiction Convention. As well as the Hugos, members also choose the location of the WorldCon two years ahead, and also of the North American SF Con the following year, if that year’s WorldCon is being held outside North America.
Read one book, from one of the following options.
Option 1: As the Hugos (as well as the Lodestar Award for Best YA Book and the Astounding Award for Best New Writer, which are awarded at the same ceremony) celebrate Science Fiction and Fantasy writing, read a book with an MPG of Science Fiction, Fantasy, or Science Fiction Fantasy. The MPG can be stand-alone or embedded.
Option 2: This year’s WorldCon is being held in Chicago, IL, while Chengdu, China was selected for 2023. The NASFIC Site Selection bids for 2023 (as the 2023 WorldCon is in China) are from Orlando, FL and Winnipeg, Canada; while currently the only submitted WorldCon bid for 2024 is Glasgow, Scotland.
Read a book at least 50% set in Florida or Illinois USA; Canada; China; or Scotland; or by an author born in one of these states or countries.REQUIRED: If the setting or author's birth location aren't specified in the GR records, please include a reference to establish them.
Option 3: The first WorldCon was held in New York in 1939. This year will be the 80th! Read a book which was first published between 1939 and 2022, inclusive, AND has both 8 and 0 somewhere in the page count (but not necessarily together).

The Lost Future of Pepperharrow - using 3 Ps from book title, ignoring P in author name.
The Adventures of Philip - using 2 Ps from book title, 1 P from author, ignoring 2 Ps in series title.
REQUIRED: Specify in your post the source(s) that you are using to reach 3 Ps.

Lions are now only found in the wild in sub-Saharan Africa and western India. Let's read books from those areas in honour of the dwindling range of lions
For both books, at least 70% of the book must take place in the setting
Book 1: read a book set in one or more sub-Saharan country or countries. We'll use this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...
Your book can be set in more than one sub-Saharan country, provided that the total time in sub-Sahara is at least 70% of the book.
REQUIRED: Identify the country(ies), provide a reference for the setting information if the location isn't specified in the GR description or the metadata.
Book 2: read a book set in India
REQUIRED: provide a reference for the setting information if the location isn't specified in the GR description or the metadata.
25.4 - Lauren Jodi's Task: Literary Lions
Help Thread
Lions are significant symbols in art and literature. Often referred to as the King of the Beasts, the lion embodies courage, strength, justice, and majesty.
This is a TWO book task. Choose ONE book from TWO different options below.
REQUIRED: State the options you chose when posting.
Option 1: The Cowardly Lion
L. Frank Baum's lion in "The Wizard of Oz" believes himself to be a coward, yet fails to understand that true bravery is courage in the face of fear. The most widely recognized symbol of cowardice, especially in Britain during WWI, is the white feather. Nevertheless, in the US armed forces, the white feather is used to signify extraordinary bravery and superior marksmanship.
Read a book with a single feather of any color on the cover.
REQUIRED: Post the cover
Option 2: Aslan
In C. S. Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia", Aslan is a talking lion who is renowned as the King of the Beasts, the son of the Emperor-Over-the-Sea, and as the King above all High Kings in Narnia.
Read a book set at least 50% in one of the following countries that has a lion on its national flag - Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Jersey, Montenegro, Spain, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, or Sri Lanka.
REQUIRED: State the country
Option 3: The Lady and the Lion
An epic retelling of the Grimm brothers classic, "Beauty and the Beast", Jacqueline K. Ogburn's story follows a young woman who faces a ferocious lion to save her father only to learn that he is actually a prince bespelled by an evil enchantress.
Read a retelling of the classic "Beauty and the Beast" fairytale from one of the following lists (the book must meet SRC requirements):
Beauty and the Beast
Best Retellings of Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast Across Genres
REQUIRED: State the list and page number on which your book is found.
Option 4: Simba
Simba, the protagonist of Disney's famous animated feature film, "The Lion King", shares many similarities with numerous human heroes including the biblical Moses and Joseph as well as William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
Read a book in which a major character shifts from human to feline in the story. Lions, tigers, leopards, cheetahs, jaguars, and panthers as well as any domestic cat will work. The character must actually shift into the animal and not merely possess its traits.
REQUIRED: Provide a reference if the character's shifting is not mentioned in the book's description, such as a quote from the text of the book.
Examples:
Magic Bites
Visions of Heat
Skinwalker

25.5 - Amy FL’s task: Just a Dandy-Lion
Help Thread
The Cowardly Lion, played by Bert Lahr, brought a bit of comedy to an otherwise serious and spooky film. Let’s recognize this lovable character and the actor who portrayed him by completing this two-book task. To do so, read a book for two different options and list the options you’ve chosen in your post.
One of the Lion’s more memorable speeches given in the film was this one:
“Courage! What makes a king out of a slave? Courage! What makes the flag on the mast to wave? Courage! What makes the elephant charge his tusk in the misty mist, or the dusky dusk? What makes the muskrat guard his musk? Courage! What makes the sphinx the seventh wonder? Courage! What makes the dawn come up like thunder? Courage! What makes the Hottentot so hot? What puts the “ape” in apricot? What have they got that I ain’t got?”
Option 1: Read a book with a title word of four or more letters that appears in the lion’s speech. The word must match exactly and subtitles should be ignored. REQUIRED: Specify in your post the word that you chose.
Option 2: Read a book with an exclamation point or question mark in the title or subtitle.
Option 3: Like Bert Lahr, read a book by a single author whose first and last name each has four letters (ignore middle initials).
Ex: Andy Weir, Jack Carr
Option 4: Bert Lahr was an early spokesperson for Lay’s potato chips. He appeared in many television commercials where he uttered the phrase: “Betcha can’t eat just one.”
Read a book by an author whose initials appear in BETCHA CAN’T EAT JUST ONE. A book with multiple authors can be used if the initials of EVERY author are found in the target phrase. All initials count.
25.6 - TraceyL's Task: Niagara Falls
Help Thread
This June I'll be taking a short vacation to Niagara Falls. I've been there several times in my life and always have a good time because I love visiting cheesy (often terrible) tourist attractions, and the Canadian side of the falls is full of them.
This is a two book task. Pick two options and read one book for each option.
Option 1: Clifton Hill
The epicenter of tourist activity is Clifton Hill - a promenade featuring a number of gift shops, wax museums, haunted houses, video arcades, restaurants, hotels and themed attractions. While each attraction is individually owned and operated, it feels like you are in one big amusement park.
Read a book where the plot features an amusement park, carnival, side show or circus. It should be the main focus of the book.
REQUIRED: If the attraction is not mentioned in the GR description, provide a reference when posting.
Examples:
Nightmare Alley, Hide, Water for Elephants
Option 2: Louis Tussaud
There have been several wax museums in Niagara Falls over the years, and the two currently operating are the Movieland Wax Museum of the Stars, and Louis Tussaud's Waxworks. The figures in these museums vary in quality, and sometimes it's hard to tell who they are supposed to be. Louis Tussaud is the great-grandson of Marie Tussaud of the famous Madam Tussaud's wax museum in London.
Read a book set at least 50% in the U.K. REQUIRED: If the location is not clear on the Goodreads page, provide a reference when posting.
Option 3: Flying Saucer Restaurant
The Flying Saucer Restaurant is exactly what you would expect it to be. It's a UFO-shaped restaurant serving up classic American diner dishes amid funky sci-fi decor. The menu looks like a tabloid newspaper and is filled with space puns.
Read a book with the main page genre Space or Aliens. Genres may be standalone or embedded.
Option 4: The Cadillac Motel
The Cadillac Motel is a car themed motel with a retro 1950's vibe. Each room is decorated with images of classic cars, and it was used as a music video filming location for Canadian rock band The Trews.
Read a book with a word in the title (ignore subtitles) found on this list of car parts: https://www.enchantedlearning.com/wor...
The list is included in post 2 of the Help Thread.
Words must match exactly, except that plurals and possessives are allowed. Please keep in mind that hyphenated words are considered to be ONE word. Two word phrases can be broken up. For example, "Baby" can be used on its own from "Baby Seat."
REQUIRED: Specify in your post the car part that you used.
25.7 - Hannelore’s Task: Hoi! Nice to meet you!
Help Thread
Hurray! My first task here on SRC, after almost a year of participating. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you all.
Read two books for this task. Choose one option for each book. When you post, state which options you used.
Option 1:
My name is Hannah, and I live together with my black cat Pörrö. Pörrö is absolutely adorable, except when he stashes living mice and bugs in his hideout under my bed.
My name is a palindrome, which means it is the same backward and forward.
Read a book by an author who has one name part that is a palindrome. The entire name part counts.
Some names that would work: Ada, Anna, Bob, Elle, Eve, Hannah, Otto.
Option 2:
I’m 32 years old, identifying as female (she/her) and live in a little village in the forest in the Netherlands.
Read a book set in the Netherlands.
REQUIRED: If the setting is not clear from the GR description or the metadata, provide a reference. In this case, we’re only counting ‘the Netherlands’ as the country in Europe, and not the other territories like the Carribean Netherlands.
Option 3:
I am an artist. I love to paint forest landscapes in acrylic paint, and have a passion for crafts. Anything made by hand, I love to see how it works, learn how to do it and see what others make.
Read a book with a MPG of ‘Art’ or ‘Crafts’. Genres may be standalone or embedded. (Please keep in mind the Rules of the Challenge : ""Coffee table", Art books, and other books consisting primarily of images or photographs without a substantial written component (essays, criticism, etc.) may not be be claimed for points.")
OR read a book from one of the following lists:
Art & Artists in Fiction
Fiction Featuring Embroidery and Embroiders
Crafty Cozy Mysteries
REQUIRED:: State which list you used and which page the book is on.
Option 4:
Unfortunately I have several chronic illnesses, and I am mostly affected by the extreme exhaustion. This means there are many things I can’t do anymore. I’m glad I can still read on most days, which is a big source of joy (along with the SRC!)
Extreme exhaustion happens with ME/CFS and with Long Covid, which is in many ways similar to ME. Many of the people suffering ME/CFS aren’t able to participate in society anymore, some are even bedbound.
By using the hashtag #MILLIONSMISSING , they/we are hoping to gain awareness for this horrible illness, and hopefully finally get some more funding for research.
Read a book with at least three words in the title (subtitle excluded), with the first letter of each word matching a letter in ‘MILLIONSMISSING’. (Letters may be used as often as they appear, not more.)
Option 5:
I am a big fan of pole sports! I used to do it myself, but now that I am too ill, I enjoy watching the national and international championships. The international competition is hosted by the International Pole Sports Federation - IPSF.
Read a book by an author with their first and last initials in ‘IPSF’ (all middle initials can be ignored).
Optional activity: Dineke Minten is a pole dancer from the Netherlands that has won many prizes. Type her name into YouTube and check out one of her performances, like her Wonder Woman routine at Olympia in 2019.

25.8 -Andy P.’s Task: Choose Your Favorite List
Help Thread
For this challenge choose two different lists and read one book from each.
The only restrictions above the usual restrictions for tasks are as follows: No book having a Main Page Genre of Children or Kids may be used and the combined total of the pages must be 500 pages or more.
REQUIRED: state in your post the list and page number on which each of your books was found.
Option 1. Choose a book from this list Books About Books and Libraries
Option 2, choose a book from this list: Rainforests and Jungles of the World
Option 3. Choose a book from this list: Nonfiction Books about Gypsies & Travellers
Option 4 Choose a book from this list: Niche Non-Fiction
25.9 - Dee's Task: It's Graduation Time…
Help Thread
June 9 marks my graduation from a 10 month in-residence Masters program. Its crazy how fast the time went, the friendships that I made and the fun classes I got to take – so my task is based on this.
For this task, you will choose either Option A, B, C and read book 1 AND book 2 from that option. Alternately, you may read a book that exceeds 500pgs and that fits both book 1 AND book 2 for your chosen option.
Option A – The Degree and my Cohort
Book 1 – The ultimate degree that is being conferred on us is a Masters in Government Information Leadership.
Read a book with all the words in the title starting with letters found in GOVERNMENT INFORMATION LEADERSHIP. Letters may be used as often as they are found. The title must have at least 3 words.
Book 2 – about 1/3 of my class is made up of international military officers – during the year, they provided valuable insights (and shenangians) into how their countries operate.
Read a book set at least 75% in one of the following countries: Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Israel, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Taiwan (for the purpose of this task Taiwan is being counted as a separate country from China), Ukraine, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates. REQUIRED. Specify the country. If it is not obvious from the GR description or metadata, provide a reference to verify the setting.
Option B – The Capstone
Book 1 - The final assignment of the program is the Independent Student Research Paper (or ISRP) – it consumed pretty much all our time when we aren’t in class.
Read a book where all the letters ISRP appear in the Authors name. Books with Multiple authors work if ALL authors fit the criteria.
Book 2 - In true Dee fashion I was changing my topic for this paper up until the last minute…I think at final count I had 4, no 5, no 6 topic changes before finishing it.
Read a book that is 4, 5, or 6 in a series
Option C – the Electives
In addition to the experience with the international students, the best part of the program was all the different electives that we could take. I honestly had a hard time making a decision (and I took more than required both semesters because I couldn't decide). But by far my 2 favorites were Women, Peace and Security (Fall) and Forecasting, Foresight and Strategic Insight (spring)
Book 1 - Women, Peace and Security looked at how national and strategic objectives across the globe can be improved by the integration of women (I know it sounds trite, but they are often not consulted until too late).
Read a book found on the first 15 pages of the following shelf:
Gender Books REQUIRED: state what page number the book was found on
Book 2 - Forecasting and foresight studied how individuals can get better at predicting significant geopolitical events by looking for signals in historical data. The theory spurred an Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity project several years ago which has now transitioned over to the Good Judgement Open (GJOpen).
Read a book where all the letters IARPA can be found in the title, NOT subtitle
optional – check out your forecasting skills on GJOpen (https://www.gjopen.com/) – it's free to set up an account
25.10 - Jen K's Task: Malawi and Zambia
Help Thread
The last week of the Spring Challenge reading was really helped out by my very long flight for work travel. This task is dedicated to my return visit to Zambia and Malawi for work.
Read two books from two different options.
REQUIRED: State the options you used
Option 1: The Kwacha. Both countries have named their currency Kwacha which means sunrise or dawn and symbolizes the dawn of their freedom from colonialism and start of their independence.
Start something new and read a book that is #1 in a series.
Option 2: Lake Malawi. Lake Malawi is beautiful, and I highly recommend a visit. Its nickname is the calendar lake because it is approximately 365 miles in length and 52 miles across.
Read a book in which the name of a month is found in either the title or the author’s name. The word must match exactly.
Examples:
Tenth of December -December in title or Louisa May Alcott - May in name
Option 3: The Flag. Both Zambian and Malawi flags share colors and symbolism. The black for the people, the red for the struggle for independence and green for the natural resources.
Read a book with a cover that includes the colors black, red AND green. Use Tineye to confirm the presence of all 3 colors, any percentage is fine. How Do I Use Tineye?
REQUIRED: Include the cover in your post.
Option 4: The Countries. Read a book by a single author with first and last initials found in MALAWI and ZAMBIA. One letter can be found in each word such a Morgan Matson- one M in Malawi and one M in zaMbia

30 point tasks
30.1 - Katrisa's Task: I Love Santa Fe!
Help Thread
I love my in-laws so much! They are retired RV people now and one of their favorite places to go is Santa Fe, New Mexico. For their 50th wedding anniversary in 2019, the whole fam went to Santa Fe and now it is one of my favorite places too! We have been twice since the anniversary trip and I love it more every time!
This is a two book task. Please choose two different options and specify which options you used in your post.
Option 1 - When we visit New Mexico, we stay at the KOA in Santa Fe - read a book where the letters KOA can be found in the title and/or subtitle. The letters need not be found together, just anywhere in the title/subtitle.
Option 2 - Every time I am in Santa Fe I love to shop for jewelry. It is crazy how much beautiful silver jewelry is in Santa Fe. Read a book with the word SILVER intact in title/subtitle/series title or author’s name. (Adam Silvera, The Silvered Serpents)
Option 3 - Another thing we love about Santa Fe is all the turquoise! My husband makes jewelry so we always visit the Cerrillos Trading Post on the Turquoise Trail and buy some turquoise. Read a book with a cover that is 75% blue and/or green according to Tineye. So your cover can be 75%+ blue OR 75%+ green OR a combination of blue and green that adds up to at least 75% (15% blue and 60% green for example).
This may be useful - How Do I Use Tineye?
Required: Post your blue/green Tineye %
Option 4 - 109 East Palace on the Plaza was the Santa Fe headquarters of Robert Oppenheimer while he developed the atomic bomb. Read a book with an MPG of science (may be embedded).
Option 5 - Get your Kicks on Route 66! Historic Route 66 passes through Santa Fe. US 66 served as a primary route for those who migrated west, especially during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s - Read a book set in the 1930s.
Option 6 - Chilis! No trip to New Mexico would be complete without ingesting copious amounts of chilis. Our favorite place to eat chili is The Shed. The Shed is located in Prince Patio, an adobe hacienda that dates back to 1692. Read a book that is set in the 1600s.
30.2 - TessaVanessa's Task: Consonant Clusters
Help Thread
Some of the most common 2-letter consonant clusters are: bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl, br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr, sc, sk, sm, sn, sp, st, sw, tw.
Book 1: Read a book by an author with initials (first name then last name, ignore middle initials) that form one of these sound clusters. State the cluster used when posting.
Book 2: Read a book with a word in the title only (not subtitle) that begins with the same sound cluster as used in Book 1. State the word.
Example:
Book 1: Bonfire at Squash Long Creek by Christopher Liberty (cl is the cluster)
Book 2: The Girl on the Cliff . CLiff is the word.
30.3 - Schatzie's Task : Escaping My Box
Help Thread
When I was raising my 5 children, I only read Historical Fiction or Mystery novels. I’d squeeze in a few minutes of reading time during soccer practice, dance lessons, and maybe before bed time. Now that I have a little more free time, I’ve expanded my reading choices, mostly because of the SRC. This challenge really pushed me out of my tight little box. The two biggest surprises in genres I actually seek out are Fantasy and Health.
So for this challenge, read 2 books. One book 1 and one book 2.
Both books have to be new to you amd they each have to be at least 300 pages.
REQUIRED: State in your post that the books are new to you.
Book 1: Read a nonfiction book with a main page genre of Health.
Book 2: Read a book with a main page genre of Urban Fantasy or Epic Fantasy.
For both books, genres may be standalone or embedded.

ZXCVB
Letters may be repeated.
Ex. Wave, Read, Extra, Tree
Subtitles are excluded.
Required: State the word.
Option 2: Sinister, Latin for left, used to refer to something of, on, or towards the left-hand side of the body.
Read a book that has been shelved as Sinister:

Option 4: In baseball, a southpaw is a left-handed pitcher. This comes from the orientation of the diamond causing the pitcher to have his left hand on the south side of his body.
Read a book by an author who was born in or currently resides in the American South: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia

EX: The Red Queen, Red at the Bone, Red, White & Royal Blue
30.8 - Tien’s Task: Drinks to keep you Warm
Help Thread
It’s Winter in Australia so we turn to drinks that’ll keep us warm. And because I’m a greedy gut, I love to drink both tea AND coffee AND everything else too! I do have my favourite brands though…
This is a 2 book task. The combined page total of the two books must be at least 600 pages. Choose two different options. All genres may be standalone or embedded.
REQUIRED: State in your post the options you used.
1. Tea
I have a new favourite tea shop: The Berry Tea Shop
For this option, read a book with a MPG Classics AND where first letter of each word in title (of at least 3 words) can be found in “The Berry Tea Shop”. Letters can be used only as often as they appear in the target name.
2. Coffee
Our preferred coffee beans are from: Killer Coffee Co
For this option, read a book with a MPG Crime AND “kill” found intact in title and/or subtitle.
3. Hot Chocolate
My favourite hot chocolate powder cannot be found in our local supermarket so I have to go especially to another shop to buy: Nestle Complete Mix Hot Chocolate
For this option, read a book with a MPG Romance AND where all author’s initials appear in “Nestle Complete Mix Hot Chocolate”
4. Alcohol
I enjoy both red & white wine and a bit of g&t now and again. There are sooo many to choose from but for this time, I chose: Little Giant Malbec.
For this option, read a book with a MPG Speculative Fiction AND where cover prominently features an animal*. Even if the cover animal is a shifter, the animal shown on the cover must be completely animal without any human parts showing.
*birds, insects, reptiles, etc. and mythological creatures are ok.
Examples:
REQUIRED: Include the cover in your post.
30.9 - Brooklyn's Task: The Purge
Help Thread
I used to move frequently when I was younger, which allowed me to regularly clean out my closets. However, as I’ve now lived in my current residence for over 10 years, it had been a while since my last big purge. I recently remedied that and my efforts resulted in several carloads of donations to a couple of nonprofits in my area. The process was painful at times, nostalgic at others and overall left me feeling much lighter.
For this task choose 2 of the following options and read 1 book for each. No books with children or kids as MPG can be used.
REQUIRED: State which options you choose
Option 1:
The purge was quite an undertaking and took several weeks to complete.
Read a book with a 2 word title where the first word is THE.
Option 2:
One of the items I came across during the process was a leather handbag inscribed with my initials that I received as a gift over 20 years ago. It was accidentally shoved to the back of the closet shelf, leading me to believe I’d lost it.
Read a book by a single author who uses at least 1 initial in their name. The initial can be in any position but must be shown the author field on the main book page.
Option 3:
A somewhat embarrassing thing discovered was that I owned over 10 pairs of black dress pants. They were different sizes and styles, but since I’ve been working from home for the last 8 years, it seemed ridiculous to have that many. I reduced the number by more than half, taking the others to a women’s shelter that helps those escaping dangerous domestic situations get housing and jobs.
Read a book that is part of a series that has at least 10 primary works.
Required: State the name of the series and how many primary works have been published in the series to date. The series name and number must be shown on the main book page in grayscale after the title.
Option 4:
I came across a stack of greeting cards that were purchased with specific recipients in mind but were never sent. I have a (bad?) habit of finding perfect birthday cards for people when the day is weeks or months away and then putting them away and promptly forgetting I have them. Thank goodness some can still be used and sent to their originally intended recipients, but I’m not sure yet what to do about the rest.
Read a book with either a cake or balloons on the cover. Cupcakes or a slice of cake will work, as long as you can tell it is cake vs some other dessert. Balloons must be party balloons or balloon animals, not hot air balloons.
REQUIRED:: Include the cover in your post.
