30.9 - Brooklyn's Task: The Purge

I used to move frequently when I was younger, which allowed me to regularly clean out my closets. However, as I’ve now lived in my current residence for over 10 years, it had been a while since my last big purge. I recently remedied that and my efforts resulted in several carloads of donations to a couple of nonprofits in my area. The process was painful at times, nostalgic at others and overall left me feeling much lighter.

For this task choose 2 of the following options and read 1 book for each. No books with children or kids as MPG can be used.
REQUIRED: State which options you choose

Option 1:
The purge was quite an undertaking and took several weeks to complete.
Read a book with a 2 word title where the first word is THE.

Option 2:
One of the items I came across during the process was a leather handbag inscribed with my initials that I received as a gift over 20 years ago. It was accidentally shoved to the back of the closet shelf, leading me to believe I’d lost it.

Read a book by a single author who uses at least 1 initial in their name. The initial can be in any position but must be shown the author field on the main book page.

Option 3:
A somewhat embarrassing thing discovered was that I owned over 10 pairs of black dress pants. They were different sizes and styles, but since I’ve been working from home for the last 8 years, it seemed ridiculous to have that many. I reduced the number by more than half, taking the others to a women’s shelter that helps those escaping dangerous domestic situations get housing and jobs.
Read a book that is part of a series that has at least 10 primary works.
Required: State the name of the series and how many primary works have been published in the series to date. The series name and number must be shown on the main book page in grayscale after the title.

Option 4:
I came across a stack of greeting cards that were purchased with specific recipients in mind but were never sent. I have a (bad?) habit of finding perfect birthday cards for people when the day is weeks or months away and then putting them away and promptly forgetting I have them. Thank goodness some can still be used and sent to their originally intended recipients, but I’m not sure yet what to do about the rest.

Read a book with either a cake or balloons on the cover. Cupcakes or a slice of cake will work, as long as you can tell it is cake vs some other dessert. Balloons must be party balloons or balloon animals, not hot air balloons.
REQUIRED:: Include the cover in your post.

That cover will work! One balloon is fine since it is a 'party' type balloon.

Simone (simonec75) For Option 1, is it ok if there is a subtitle? This is the book. Would it work? The Alps: A Human History from Hannibal to Heidi and Beyond

Having a subtitle is fine. The title just needs to be 2 words.

Cupcakes work! Enjoy whichever title you choose.

LOL! As much as I hated moving so often when I was younger, I do miss the frequent opportunities to get rid of stuff. Purging is such a chore! But it does feel pretty fantastic to donate all of it.

I think that the two authors listed are actually the same person. Can anyone tell me if this is right and if it qualifies for option 2 since she uses the initials on this book?

Gallant by V.E. Schwab

Julia (julia103) | 2719 comments For Option 3, is a series of anthologies acceptable?

Seasons (Tales of Valdemar #13)

message 20: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 1109 comments Hi Julia ~ Looks okay to me! There appear to be 15 primary works in the series, so unless a mod says otherwise based on an SRC rule I'm not recalling at the moment, this is approved.
