Hannah | 3293 comments This was a case of a book having a premise I liked the idea or, but the execution was not good. The whole story is based on how Hannah’s life would be different based on the decisions she makes. In alternate sections, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision. I think part of my frustration with this is that the book was not written in chapters but broken down into different sections that are also not named, and so with each change, it was sometimes unclear until a way into the change which storyline we were in. This may have been more easily seen if I had been reading this book, but the narrator on the audiobook used the same voice for each character, and so I found it very difficult to follow. I also found Hannah to be a bit annoying and not believable. I have now read 5 books over the last few years by this author, and I would definitely say that her later books are her strongest, so I would read the next book she releases, but I’m not sure I am going to read the others in her back catalogue.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11067 comments I agree that her later books are better, but I enjoyed this one more than you did. I've liked this theme, ever since I saw the film Sliding Doors.

I usually have the same complaint about transitions in audio books (I had a really hard time with Eventide because he often didn't use names). Somehow with this one, I caught onto each transition very quickly. I think the rhythm and timing helped a lot. The first sentence in each new section often had something about the setting or her physical condition to clue me in. Also each first sentence seemed to have a specific tone, so I knew we were switching On her backlist I also liked Evidences of the Affair.

Amy | 12914 comments Again, I know I have said this before, but I read her first four earlier works as a set, and all within the same two week period. So much that they all actually blurred together a bit. But what was great about that, was that I felt that as a set they explored four kinds of dimensions of relationships. So taken all together, was my experience of each as a kind of angle within a composite. I also sort of think of earlier works as just warming up. That said, I thought Taylor Jenkins Reid would end up in the top four, although she was not in my top two (which still remain). But she has certainly had some good hits. I also liked evidence of the affair, especially in audio.
