Joan takes one look at Mike and draws all sorts of conclusions about him (he’s much younger than he is, he’s not really one of the SEALs used for important missions, he’s more a bureaucrat, etc.). And, the more time she spends with him, the more she digs into her first impressions. Your thoughts about why she refused to take him seriously?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments We know that Mike is seriously handsome. Maybe she thought he was a poster-boy for the SEALs and didn't really go on the missions. As she learned more about him, she didn't seem to take that information seriously. I have no idea why.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments Once again, I think her preoccupation with his age dictated her grossly inaccurate impressions of him. It's very childish on her part.

It was childish and condescending. He deserved better and I don’t like how Joan reacted to Mike. It felt like she was trying to reject him before he could reject her because men who looked like him didn’t spend time with someone like her.

It always surprises me that people who have been put upon often perpetuate the same thing with others rather than go in the opposite direction.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Her attitude towards Mike put me off in the beginning. It took some time before I started to like Joan at all. I agree that she was childish and too focused on the age difference.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Mike is an officer. They just don't hand that out because he is hot and handsome. Joan just couldn't believe that there was a serious person behind the handsome. I think he seriously intimidated her and really challenged her.
