25.6 - TraceyL's Task: Niagara Falls

This June I'll be taking a short vacation to Niagara Falls. I've been there several times in my life and always have a good time because I love visiting cheesy (often terrible) tourist attractions, and the Canadian side of the falls is full of them.

This is a two book task. Pick two options and read one book for each option.

Option 1: Clifton Hill

The epicenter of tourist activity is Clifton Hill - a promenade featuring a number of gift shops, wax museums, haunted houses, video arcades, restaurants, hotels and themed attractions. While each attraction is individually owned and operated, it feels like you are in one big amusement park.

Read a book where the plot features an amusement park, carnival, side show or circus. It should be the main focus of the book.
REQUIRED: If the attraction is not mentioned in the GR description, provide a reference when posting.

Examples:
Nightmare Alley, Hide, Water for Elephants

Option 2: Louis Tussaud

There have been several wax museums in Niagara Falls over the years, and the two currently operating are the Movieland Wax Museum of the Stars, and Louis Tussaud's Waxworks. The figures in these museums vary in quality, and sometimes it's hard to tell who they are supposed to be. Louis Tussaud is the great-grandson of Marie Tussaud of the famous Madam Tussaud's wax museum in London.

Read a book set at least 50% in the U.K. REQUIRED: If the location is not clear on the Goodreads page, provide a reference when posting.

Option 3: Flying Saucer Restaurant

The Flying Saucer Restaurant is exactly what you would expect it to be. It's a UFO-shaped restaurant serving up classic American diner dishes amid funky sci-fi decor. The menu looks like a tabloid newspaper and is filled with space puns.

Read a book with the main page genre Space or Aliens. Genres may be standalone or embedded.

Option 4: The Cadillac Motel

The Cadillac Motel is a car themed motel with a retro 1950's vibe. Each room is decorated with images of classic cars, and it was used as a music video filming location for Canadian rock band The Trews.

Read a book with a word in the title (ignore subtitles) found on this list of car parts: https://www.enchantedlearning.com/wor...
The list is included in post 2 of the Help Thread.

Words must match exactly, except that plurals and possessives are allowed. Please keep in mind that hyphenated words are considered to be ONE word. Two word phrases can be broken up. For example, "Baby" can be used on its own from "Baby Seat."

REQUIRED: Specify in your post the car part that you used.

For option 4: Words must match exactly, except that plurals and possessives are allowed. Are singular and non-possessives also allowed.
Ex. driver's seat - is possessive already, is driver allowed?
Ex. lights - already plural, would light also work?

message 7: by TraceyL (new)

TraceyL | 1069 comments Yes, you can do the opposite and have singulars and non-possessives, as long as it's still essentially the same word.

Re: option 2, how would the 'set in UK' rule work for non-fiction (if it would even work at all)? Would non-fiction about the UK or something within the UK work?

message 9: by TraceyL (new)

TraceyL | 1069 comments If it's specifically about a situation in the UK, or the memoir of a person from the UK, then it would work.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Would a house of horrors work for option 1?
Specifically, Kitty's House of Horrors?

message 11: by TraceyL (new)

TraceyL | 1069 comments Sorry, Kitty's House of Horrors would not work for option 1 as it sounds like a reality show set up in the woods, not an attraction people can visit.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments Morning.

So, just to be paranoid, I could use a CRUISE to die for for option 4, as CRUISE control is in the parts list?

message 13: by TraceyL (new)

TraceyL | 1069 comments Yes, you can use Cruise for Cruise control.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments Sorry, me again.

Please can you confirm Space for Option 3 for Elder Race. I see it, but it's near the bottom of the list.

Thank you.

TraceyL | 1069 comments Elder Race approved for Space
