Susan (shaydock) | 727 comments Sometimes in life you forget a book you read and then it jumps into your mind and its words set the tone for all the other romances I have read. Thus I dug this from my piles of book and shared some quotes from this dear book.

Please excuse this format but I wanted to take quotes from one book which speaks too eloquently about Love. Here you go:

Quote 1
“Love is a temporary madness; it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides.
And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion, it is not the desire to mate every second minute of the day, it is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every cranny of your body. No, don’t blush, I am telling you some truths. That is just being “in love”, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew toward each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.”

Quote 2
“Love is a kind of dementia with a very precise and oft-repeated clinical symptoms. You blush in each other’s presence, you both over in places where you expect the other to pass, you are both a little tongue-tied, you both laugh inexplicably and too long, you become quite nauseatingly girlish, and he becomes quite ridiculously gallant. You have also grown a little stupid.”

Quote 3
“Love is not breathlessness; It is not excitement; It is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being “in love”., which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.”

Quote 4
[She] knew that it was not precisely a body that one loved. One loved the man who shone out through the eyes and used its mouth to smile and speak.”

Quote 5
“The garden where you sit
Has never a need of flowers,
For you are the blossoms
And only a fool or the blind
would fail to know it”

Have you read this book?

Susan

DanielleGN | 334 comments the quotes don't sound familiar, so I don't think I've read it, though quote 5 sort of rings a bell. I especially like quotes 4 and 5.
