🔹1 The Mystery of Marie Roget - Edgar Allan Poe. A short story about a body found in the river Seine in Paris, the first one based on a real crime. First published 1842. Read, but not recommended.
🔹2 Deep Waters: Mysteries on the Waves - Martin Edwards. A collection of classic short stories (by various authors) from the British Library. This edition is relatively modern, but the stories are classics.
🔹3 The Nigger of the Narcissus - Joseph Conrad. With apologies for the now unacceptable word, which I believe was in common use when the book was written. The story is about a ship & its crew, with, obviously, the title character an important feature of the story.

Ohhhh I LOVE this challenge!! July is my birthday month and how I would love to spend it at the beach - my favorite place!
The Hawaii 5-0 touch is brilliant! I loved that show when it was on, and it holds up well. Lots of fun to watch 📺
I'll live vicariously through my books - combining a beach trip with some detecting on the side.... 🏖👒🕶🔎🕵🏻

A surreal encounter in the seaside hotel…
Joyce Cary - A House of Children 1941
Julien Gracq - A Dark Stranger 1945

I am assuming there can by synonyms and regional terms, correct? For example, in at least part of the US they call small lakes ponds (eg Walden Pond, which is not a pond by the standards of where I grew up, but a lake) and of course things like creek vary a lot in size.

Happy Birthday Cozy_Pug!
Hope you have a canny one x
Yummy choices Vit!
Everyone is linked to here (on the second post!)

That reminds me of a classic:

Saw this on Jazzy review of the book. Thank you!

Yes, Trisha, some great books here!
Cosmic, I love The Sea is My Brother! Kerouac for the win!
Thanks everyone for playing! All linked to here

1/7/22- 31/7/22
2/3
1. Mario and the Magician - July 05
2. Death in Venice - July 07
3. The Golden Ass - July 09

Trisha says it would be a feature of the story. That might be subjective.

Thank you Jazzy. I finished 3, but might finish some more during the month :)

Lots of stuff on the ocean here including a shipwreck! It's set on a few fictional islands off of Connenmara, Ireland.

One is light, the other is dark… Light and darkness collide…
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Joyce Cary - A House of Children 1941
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Julien Gracq - A Dark Stranger 1945

Swamp Angel by Ethel Wilson
a Canadian literary classic. The protagonist loves fly fishing and ends up helping to run a fishing lodge on a lake in Canada--plenty of stuff! Also, 4+ stars!!!!!
Late on reviews, but I finished it the other day.

1. Frenchman's Creek by Daphne du Maurier (1941)
2. The Girl on the Boat by P.G. Wodehouse (1922)

I went through the links last night and ticked all the people who finished their quest! Well done, and there are still days left!

Yes, I've read them and may be a good member and update my link later.

Swapped a title. The Left Hand of Darkness unexpectedly had a river which saves a life and Crook o' Lune: A Lancashire Mystery: 104 which is the name of a river surprisingly did not have any mention of the river save stating the name!
