I have (finally!) downloaded the ebook, and really look forward to read this book, though I might not get to it in the following weeks...
Any progress so far, Wim? I'm only a couple chapters in because I prioritized some other reading. It's well written though and I intend to continue.
Sorry Tinea, I know we're almost end of September, but I still did not manage to get through my current reads and get to this promising book.
I finally found time to read this book. I am about one third far now and it is really fascinating! A great history book, written by Nigerian authors. Recommended!
Just finished this fascinating history book on the violent and complex history leading up to the creation of Nigeria in 1914. Great read, and superbly written by Nigerian authors.
There are links to be made with a previous group read of A Fistful of Shells: West Africa from the Rise of the Slave Trade to the Age of Revolution, the splendid reference book to understand the precolonial linkages of West-Africa with the rest of the world.

From the publisher: Formation challenges the orthodox understanding of Nigeria’s past as merely a product of colonial interference, revealing an incredibly complicated portrait of a nation with a tangled history, where slavery, violence and instability was and remains a primary organising principle for elite competition and political negotiations.
According to the publisher's website (https://cassavarepublic.biz/product/f...), there is a podcast about the books here (https://nigeria-formation.com/) but I wasn't able to get the page to load.
