Book Club+ MPC discussion

Hi everyone,

If you are joining us for Emma Straub's "This Time Tomorrow," we continue the story at page 27.

Alice was visiting her father Leonard at the hospital and thinking about conversations she had with her father and recording them to listen later. She recalled visits with her father in the city, his daily rituals, She wanted to remember those conversations. Her father was an author and had a successful book. Alice tried to understand the characters, giving personality and realism to them. She left the hospital always wondering if it would be her last visit with him.

She received a phone call from her friend Sam, who believed Matt was going to propose to Alice. She envied her friend's life. She compared that perfect life to her father's, living the life of a single, divorced man. She met Matt for dinner. Matt nervously proposed to Alice. She rejected his offer. Strangely, Matt was not too hurt by Alice turning him down. He spoke of another woman he had re-connected with on Facebook.

Alice was back to setting up parent appointments at work. She thought she would received an email from Tommy Joffrey, her old classmate, instead she received an email from his wife. She scheduled time to meet with the Joffrey family. Alice was thinking about this family and if they would be a good fit for the school. Melinda announced that she was retiring as Alice's supervisor and a new person would be coming in to take her place.

Alice's 40th birthday arrived and compared her simple day to those of other friends. She met Sam for dinner. Sam gave Alice an old photo of them from younger days. Alice thinking back to better and not so great times from the past.

Leonard is still in the hospital and Alice faithfully visits him. It is pressure for Alice to keep holding on for hope. Can she handle the expected? Alice turned down Matt's proposal, what does this mean for her future? Alice has thoughts about Tommy and seeing him again at her school? Are these signs of something? Why does she think of him still? Alice celebrated her 40th birthday, what are her expectations for the future? Better relationships? A new boss is coming, how will that work out for Alice? Her father, she has unresolved thoughts about her dad. Can you she figure that out? The past keeps coming back...
