This one is taking me a while. Surgery 3 weeks ago on my right wrist has been a monster to recover from.

Chapters 1-21: I think the only reason Toby is feeling the way he is towards Lennie is that it makes him feel closer to Bailey. Lennie's best bet would be, to be honest with Toby, keep her distance for a while, and stick with Joe. He seems so carefree and honest.

I am so sorry about that. I have been wanting to do that on other buddy reads and I've seen it but I honestly don't know where and how? I don't see a place to mark it.

Finished: (view spoiler)[ I didn't love this book. I did like it. My heart truly broke for all the characters in this book. Joe made Lennie laugh and feel happy again. Toby understood what she was going through and shared her grief. Her heart was made for Joe, and in the end I'm glad that she knew that. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1 – 6 : (view spoiler)[This book is so sad right from the start, it’s making me feel a bit depressed myself to be quite honest and I don’t like it. Toby and Lennie getting close bothered me so much because it’s clear they are doing it just to feel close to Bailey and that’s…twisted (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 7 – 14 : (view spoiler)[WHY are there so many elements to this book, the mom’s disappearance and “a mom just knows” part was so over the top imo, I feel like this book is all over the place and I am not enjoying this. It is supposed to be a sad and emotional read but I am finding myself getting more annoyed with every turn of the page (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 15 – 23 : (view spoiler)[I am most sad for Joe in all of this, he seems sweet mostly and I don’t like how Lennie is lying to him all the time about Toby, I don’t believe she’s in love with him because if she was, she would have shut down Toby’s advances already. Also, Toby has a really problematic way of handling his grief and I can’t sympathise with him at all (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 24 – 30 : (view spoiler)[I do like Lennie and Bailey’s connection as described in the book, I really really do, I just wish this was not all overshadowed by my dislike for how Toby and Lennie are handling the situation. Toby’s pain is visible, he was going to get married, be a dad, but that doesn’t mean he need to be close to Lennie.. (hide spoiler)]

On one hand, I liked how Toby and Lennie resolved their feeling and were honest about everything, on the other I still don’t feel like Lennie should have ended up with Joe because she has so much healing to do. I did enjoy how she made up her mind to compete for the first chair though and got over the Companion pony syndrome (hide spoiler)]
