Read a book you have had on your TBR for more than a year. This task cannot be used for combo. This task may be used only once.

10.2 Octoberfest

Celebrate Oktoberfest by reading a book written by an author born in one of countries hosting Oktoberfest festivities: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Chile, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Mexico, Palestinian Territories, Romania, United States and Vietnam.

10.3 9, 10, 11

Read a book where any of the author's names begins with the 9th, 10th or 11th letter of the alphabet (I, J, K). If two of the author's names begins with any of these letters, give yourself a Selfie worth 5 points. (Selfie: combos with itself. Good only for this task, qualifies as a style.)

10.4 Series (Ed's Task)

Read a book that is part of a series*.

*For the purposes of RwS, a series should include at least three books. Sometimes a story is complete in two volumes, and those we don't consider a series. If there are only two published books and it is clear the author plans to continue the story, those would be a series.

10.5 Autumn Colors (Rosemary's Task)

Let’s colour a bright season for ourselves! Read a book whose title or subtitle contains any word (except “and”) from this list of Crayola Standard Colors: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

You may discount possessives: for example, “Robin’s” is in the list, but “Robin” also works. Otherwise, the match must be exact – so “Robins” (plural) would not work.

Note: The page goes on to show lists of “Specialty Crayons”. These do not count for this task.

10.6 Bless the Animals (Rebekah's Task)

In honor of St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, many churches hold ceremonies to bless animals on his feast day of October 4. This has led to World Animal Day which is observed on this day.

For this task read a book that contains animals that talk or is from an animal’s point of view.

Examples would be Charlotte's Web or The Art of Racing in the Rain Books that do not work Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog or Old Yeller

10.7 Geocaching (Kim's Task)

Geocaching is an outdoor adventure for all ages, using GPS coordinates to find a hidden cache.

Read a book with an MPG of Adventure or Outdoors.

10.8 House (Ann's Task)

I love books where the house is essentially a character.

Read a book where a house could be considered a character.

For an example book, The Haunting of Hill House has the perfect opening…
“No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood for eighty years and might stand for eighty more.”

10.9 NFL! (Anika's Task)

The NFL is starting its 103rd season on September 8th.

Read a book set at least 75% in any of these cities which have a professional football team: Washington D.C., Green Bay, Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, San Francisco, Buffalo, Denver, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Dallas, Tampa, Detroit, Baltimore, Miami, Houston, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Atlanta, or Cleveland.

There are a few teams that claim entire states or regions, so if you read a book set in North Carolina, Tennessee, Arizona, Minnesota, or New England (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island) you can claim this task! Please include where your book is set when you post.
