Stuart Little
Anything by Louis L'Amour (he got letters all the time from readers who began reading his work at 7 or 8)

I'd recommend Wonder by R. J palacio. I found it very sweet and inspiring, and its not too hard to read either.
Give it a shot!

I would recommend:
- The Boxcar Children
- The Hardy Boys
- Dear America series (or maybe the Dear America:
My Name Is America spin off series if he’d prefer reading about other boys)

Starting with some series:
- the secret series by pseudonymous bosch (a very funny series that plays with it's story line and characters in at times hilarious and innovative ways)
- Frindle and other andrew clements books ( short books set in school written about young kids who break the status quo, good for readers of all levels)
- Roald dahls children books ( short and whimsical stories with a bit of a dark edge)
- The Percy Jackson series ( male led YA series about Greek gods, newish and popular)
- animal based books like warrior cats, the gaurdians of ga'hoole the wolves of the beyond (great if he's a kid that really connects with animals)
- The animal Healer series by Lauren st John (books from a variety of genres focused around saving animals, a bit more dark at times than the other options)
- Toby Alone (a really sweet beginners fantasy story for young readers)
- The chronicles of Narnia ( a more advanced fantasy series)
- the candymakers series ( a modernized take on willy wonka style stories with good moral lessons and enjoyable child characters)
- Jake and lily and other Jerry spinelli books (basically a more mature andrew clements, if those books are below his level, both are beloved childrens authours)
and Some non-series children novels:
Encyclopedia brown (like a sherlock holmes for kids)
the tale of despaureux
the one and only Ivan
Being Heumann: the story of a disablity rights activist
white fang
out of my mind
the good dog (most of the childrens books by Avi)
Ok thats everything, I tried to include a wide variety of genre and higlight some newer children's series

- Andrew Clements books
- The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me
- The School Story
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
You also might want to try some atlases.
Here is a good one
Our Dumb World: The Onion's Atlas of the Planet Earth
