Tiffany Hey everyone, I'm new to Goodreads but I think that this will be a good place to get some info. My 7 year old is reading well above his grade level and I'm struggling to find books that are at his reading level and still appropriate for his age/maturity level. He likes the usual kids books (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Minecraft Sagas) and I'm happy to keep them in supply but I'd like him to venture into novels as he can finish reading those books in less than a day. I recently introduced him to Charlotte's Web and he read it in 2 days. Does anyone have any suggestions on YA type books that would still be age appropriate for him. Thanks in advance.

Angelique First Harry Potter
Stuart Little
Anything by Louis L'Amour (he got letters all the time from readers who began reading his work at 7 or 8)

Tiffany Thank you! I'll check them out!

Sophie Hi!
I'd recommend Wonder by R. J palacio. I found it very sweet and inspiring, and its not too hard to read either.
Give it a shot!

Des Has he read "The Healers" - by Donna Levi? It's a story about young teens with some unusual "superpowers". It's book 1 of a trilogy. I enjoyed it, but I think that kids & teens will too ....

Cydney DeVries The Phantom Tollbooth

Brooklyn Long I understand that struggle very much because I had the same problems when I was that age!
I would recommend:
- The Boxcar Children
- The Hardy Boys
- Dear America series (or maybe the Dear America:
My Name Is America spin off series if he’d prefer reading about other boys)

Baron Blix I'll throw alot of books at you that I found to be ideal for that 7 year age where kids start burning through books, everything should be at or below the difficulty of Harry Potter, and at or below that content level while still being interesting and engaging novels:

Starting with some series:
- the secret series by pseudonymous bosch (a very funny series that plays with it's story line and characters in at times hilarious and innovative ways)
- Frindle and other andrew clements books ( short books set in school written about young kids who break the status quo, good for readers of all levels)
- Roald dahls children books ( short and whimsical stories with a bit of a dark edge)
- The Percy Jackson series ( male led YA series about Greek gods, newish and popular)
- animal based books like warrior cats, the gaurdians of ga'hoole the wolves of the beyond (great if he's a kid that really connects with animals)
- The animal Healer series by Lauren st John (books from a variety of genres focused around saving animals, a bit more dark at times than the other options)
- Toby Alone (a really sweet beginners fantasy story for young readers)
- The chronicles of Narnia ( a more advanced fantasy series)
- the candymakers series ( a modernized take on willy wonka style stories with good moral lessons and enjoyable child characters)
- Jake and lily and other Jerry spinelli books (basically a more mature andrew clements, if those books are below his level, both are beloved childrens authours)

and Some non-series children novels:
Encyclopedia brown (like a sherlock holmes for kids)
the tale of despaureux
the one and only Ivan
Being Heumann: the story of a disablity rights activist
white fang
out of my mind
the good dog (most of the childrens books by Avi)
Ok thats everything, I tried to include a wide variety of genre and higlight some newer children's series

Ruth try Kate DiCamillo's Because of Winn Dixy. A great book that I read when I was seven and still read to this day.

abbie As a former 7 year old, I loved Dragon keeper (set in ancient china where a girl called ping helps a dragon), His name was walter (it does have some romance so not sure if he is too young for that, up to you), The 13-story treehouse is a fun series too.

Everything from David Walliams is pretty good

K. Lynn Grey The Wayside School Series and Holes by Louis Sachar are quite good.

Renée ''The Lost Little Fox'' by Elias K. Sterling on Amazon. An amazing book for children and i'm very curious on what everybody thinks about it.

Imogen Trixie belden is a classic but it can be a bit hard to find these days.
