Karin | 9210 comments NB 92 people have shelved this favorites, so to each her/his own! I have had this on my tbr for a long time, so when I checked the favorites shelf this is one of the ones I decided to finally get around to reading.

What a disappointment!

I started off thinking it was going to be rather insightful as there are some excellent points, but it is mixed in with that extremely sexist and misogynistic thinking, religious thoughts that I can't agree with and some asinine thoughts such as people only do evil thing unintentionally. I read this slowly because it's written in point form and isn't something you can read well in a long sitting, IMO.

I'm not sure why I was so keen on reading a Roman thinker from that era when I think about what their society was like, but I've been meaning to read Aurelius for many years now.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11064 comments Thank you for that Karin. It’s been on my tbr forever, I read two pages once, and lost interest. I kept it on because I thought it would be a spinach book- good-for-me. I’m happy to knock it off the list.

Maybe it’s the title that appealed to us. I kind of like saying his name.

I liked the title, his name and the idea of reading classic writers. Over the years I have asked myself why I bother reading philosophy since I usually argue with it :) Sometimes I'm glad I read them, but not always.

If I've saved you wasted reading time, I'm happy. No more Aurelius for me.
