There are several Jules's in this book due to all of the flashbacks. The Jules in the flashbacks is vulnerable (as we see from Hot Target) but the current day Jules has had it with Adam (and perhaps even Robin at this point).

I'm not sure which moment is his finest. I loved how he stood by Max in every way. He was the superior negotiator in this story. He went to Germany with Max. He put himself in danger to draw the threat away from Max et al. Jules managed to get help when it didn't look like he would survive. I'll say it again--I love him.

Yes, yes, yes to everything you’ve all said!
I love Jules who loves hard and is absolutely loyal to those he cares about. He’s smart, resourceful and is unapologetic about his identity. He’s not afraid to just be himself.
I still worry, though, about his vulnerability to Adam. Those billboards sent him into a tailspin. I really, really hope I’m wrong.
