Our November 2022 pick is Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty.

Let us know what you think of the pick

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments The author showing off Six Wakes

Tina (javabird) | 765 comments Cool. I’ve already read this and enjoyed it. I might read it again.

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 1638 comments I listened to this audiobook narrated by the author and enjoyed this smash up between a Mystery and Science Fiction. A very nice who- done- it in space.

Rick I just read her Station Eternity which was pretty good. This looks fun, too.

Trike | 11190 comments I read this a couple-three years ago. Basically the book version of the SyFy TV series Dark Matter. If you liked that, you’ll probably like this.

Cool! I really liked Dark Matter.

Hmm I enjoyed Dark Matter much more than this one.

I for some reason thought we had read Mur Lafferty.

But I was confusing her with Mercedes Lackey.

I did enjoy Mur's podcast version of her superhero novel "Playing for Keeps"

John (Nevets) Nevets (nevets) | 1900 comments This cover looks really familiar, like something I've seen many, many times. Was it one of those book advertisements on the side of this website for a while?

And @terpkristin Tom made the decision publicly on Discord late on Friday.

Melissa | 50 comments I read it in 2019, and I liked it!

Joyce (eternity21) | 198 comments I have been wanting to read this since it came out just never got around to it. Now I will.

Playing for Keeps was really good. That's what turned me onto her writing.

Ruth | 1778 comments I think I'll pick this up on audiobook but I'm slightly backlogged with my audiobooks atm so I might not get round to reading it until the back end of the month. Also, I'm currently listening to a murder mystery set on a spaceship (The Spare Man by Mary Robinette Kowal) so I think I'll want a palate (eardrum?) cleanser before I listen to another murder mystery set on a spaceship.

Joanna (spriggana) | 167 comments I do understand the need, but can assure you that they are very different – just like murder mysteries set on Earth are not all the same ;-)

I've apparently had this in my audible library for a bit. As it happens I still need 1 more sci-fi book for my S&L group challenge and just finished my last audio book, so I started it today.

Pretty interesting so far, I can see the Dark Matter comparison.

Misti (spookster5) | 549 comments Ooh, a pick I've already read! I really liked this book. Can't wait for the discussion.

All murder mysteries should be set on a spaceship ;-)

Tamahome | 7215 comments The Spare Man has more cocktails.

Janet Still FNP (cosmoblivion) | 60 comments I've not heard of this one! And it sounds intriguing.... must have.

Joanna (spriggana) | 167 comments Tamahome wrote: "The Spare Man has more cocktails."
And dogs!

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) I have this one lying around so I think I'm going to try to fit it in to my November reads.

Robert Lee (harlock415) | 318 comments I read this the year it came out. It's quite good.

Colin Forbes (colinforbes) | 534 comments Is it really 5 years since I read this? I would totally be up for a re-read, except I’ve just started listening to her brand-new sci-fi whodunnit, Station Eternity and it might get a bit confusing to be working my way through both at the same time.

WriterBenjamin | 25 comments It’s pretty good. I spoke with her and told her about the Sword and Laser. Here is hoping ey reach out to her for an interview.

The month has begun. Go forth and discuss!

Robyn Russell (Robynsbookshelf) (robynsbookshelf) | 12 comments I’m looking forward to finally reading this.

A couple of years ago I was standing in the science fiction section of Barnes and Nobel when an employee seemingly materialized from thin air.
He grabbed Six Wakes off the shelf and handed it to me, with a serious “This one was good”. Then vanished back down the aisle.
This has happened a number of times. Always the science fiction section and always the same mystery employee. I’ve never seen him anywhere else in the store.
Might just be a ghost that really loves science fiction.

Tamahome | 7215 comments Maybe he likes you.

Terracotta (tonynations) | 6 comments I feel bad I didn't really enjoy this one. I think this was a well written novel. I don't think it's not something for me. I was hoping it would be a little more like Project Hail Mary. I loved that book. I would still recommend it to others however.
