I remember thinking that he lives in this building but more or less keeps totally to himself. He doesn't know his neighbors, though they try to include him in building activities. I think they are very curious about him.
As far as his apartment, everything has been changed to his specifications. It reminded me of a "safe room" that the rich have put in their homes in case of intruders.

Evan trying to hide his one foot not having a sock from Peter and as well as the blood on his arm during the elevator ride. Will he make it to his apartment?
I do agree with Robin - his apartment does remind you of a safe room.
I became clear once he got in that elevator that it was important to Evan that he appear normal amongst his neighbors and that he seemed to know everything about them. When he described his apartment, I thought it a fortress but a safe room is a much better description.


He is a researcher. He knows everything about his neighbors, which is another type of protection.
