The series adaptation of The Lying Life of Adults will premiere on Netflix on January 4.

The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin should be starting to release in 2023.

Of course, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is on there. That might actually be perfect since I had planned on doing a reread of it before the movie comes out anyway.

I'm debating between that one and Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI .

I think that is planned for Spring 2023, no specific date yet

I've heard an adaptation of Washington Black is coming out on Disney + next year!

Kindred comes out this month, but that will be close enough for me.

"Will Trent" is coming to ABC? I think. He is the main character in Karin Slaughter's excellent series, making his debut in Tryptich.

I also recently saw an advertisement for Three Pines on I think Amazon Prime. That will be based on Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series.

I have no idea how the adaptations will be but those are literally Top Two authors for me.

oh WOW did not know about that!! I hope they do justice to it. I'm a little scared. Netflix has a bad track record of canceling shows, and this one needs to be multiple seasons to really tell the full story.

the downside to reading a lot of books is that I've already read most of the books I'm interested in on that list! there are a few I haven't read, and all I need is ONE, so I can manage ...

Thanks for that list, Jackie. I found a couple that might work for me, although the Anne Rice one is most definitely a BIG BOOK, which intimidates me a bit...still.

I think Dune counts for this as Dune part 2 is coming out in 2023.

IMDB claims A Manual for Cleaning Women: Selected Stories has an adaptation coming in 2023, though it also says it's in pre-production, which... idk very much about the film-making process, but pre-production to release generally takes a lot longer than a year, no?

Since Daisy Jones is coming out March 3rd, I might read that.
There's a few good options for this one, but i'll wait for my options to come out before comitting cause everytime there's a simliar prompt i always end up with something thats pushed back hehe

I haven't seen a release date for the new season yet, but I've heard that it is supposed to come out this year.

New tv series Will Trent is based on a book series. I saw someone say the pilot is based on the second book in the series. Would it make more sense to read that one or book one for this challenge?

I didn't realize it was coming out that soon! I'm excited. (I knew it was releasing this year and that they'd wrapped on filming but wasn't 100% sure on release date.)

I think I will read A Man Called Ove since there is a film adaption (A man named Otto) with Tom Hanks which will arrive in European Cinemas in January or February.

I've had a lucky find. I'm going through the George Smiley books (very slowly), and the next on my list is The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. I was looking for it on IMDB for another challenge, as I thought there had been a movie many years ago (which there was - 1965 to be precise), and it turns out that there's a new mini-series of it due out this year: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5900008/...

I've been seeing ads for All Quiet on the Western Front everywhere, so I might pick that up. I last read it in high school, so 20+ years ago.

I went with Left Behind . Though there have been several movies of it in the past, there was recently a new one that was released.

If you would prefer an audiobook, I listened to an excellent free recording found on YouTube for another group last fall. Great narrator and highly recommend for anyone interested.

I'm planning to read The Screaming Staircase from the Lockwood & Co series for this prompt. The show Lockwood & Co was released on Netflix last month so it definitely fits this challenge!

I just finished watching that! I went in not knowing anything about it and thought it was pretty good. I'm thinking about reading the books to see how they compare.

I am reading Shriver by Chris Belden for this prompt. The movie based on this book was released this March.

I read and really liked Women Talking by Miriam Toews. The movie was released in January 2023.

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus is a feminist historical fiction set in the 1950s featuring scientist Elizabeth Zott who becomes a TV cooking show host. Her male bosses have a sweetly feminine show in mind but Elizabeth is a chemist and she has a different idea about how things will run.

I chose this one...I'm really enjoying exploring children's books these days. Grandsons, I think.

I read A Vision of Loveliness by Louise Levene.

This forms part of a BBC series called The Read , each episode of which is a performance rather than a straight reading of one of four novels. The episode with this particular book was broadcast on 2nd April 2023, performed by the actor Liv Hill. Unfortunately (and certainly not Ms Hill's fault), I nodded off at a crucial point, so I thought I would get the book.

It's a tragi-comedy set in early 60s London, just before it started to Swing - the story of a teenage shop girl who becomes involved in the world of glamour (or not) modelling. It does an excellent job of showing the limited choices open to uneducated women and is a brilliant evocation of the period.
