It's infrequent my memory doesn't serve me adequately on a matter of military history.

But when in trouble like this, I've come to realize the folks in this group usually have the answer. No idea why this is. I can't account for it --just a lot of diverse backgrounds, I reckon.

Anyway, I'm trying to remember the 19th century (or maybe early 20th century?) Balkan political leader who was such a braggart and bombast.

Some Yugoslavian or Macedonian general who rose from the ranks, staged a coup, and reined for a few years.

The thing about him which stands out is his sexual prowess. He claimed to have sired thousands of bastards during his rein.

Who the heck is it, whom I'm trying to recall? Halp

Ah. I think I have it. I looked up 'European interwar period dictatorships'
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europea...
and found...
'Corneliu Codreanu' of Moldavia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corneli...
(charismatic neo-Fascist creator of that land's 'Iron Guard')
...from this, I get the so-called Saint "Stephen the Great"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen...
...who was Codreanu's boyhood hero and lifelong model.

There may still be one other name I need, might be Tito
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josip_B...

...but at least one very gruesome quote turned up during all this, so far: "Hell let loose on earth cannot be subdued by the beating of angels' wings"
(the poet Schmidt-Pauli, defending White Terror vs Red Terror)

p.s. Mighty grisly reading, poking around in this subject matter. Even when one hops down the barest historical outline of places like Albania, Moldavia, Ruthenia, Romania ...geez. Note: how many of them participated in Jewish/gypsy genocides, entirely of their own devising, during WWII. They had their own concentration camps, their own 'ethnic cleansing' solutions. The Nazis themselves, were often appalled at the measures.

I don't feel much sympathy for any of these peoples having come under Soviet oppression, or whatever they may be complaining about now. They weren't hapless victims of the Iron Curtain, they were bloodstained butchers in their own right. With Hitler's blessing, they ran roughshod. And some of these nations still don't admit they did anything wrong.

We have a Balkans expert soon to join our group so maybe we'll learn more later. I'm just extemporizing entirely off-the-cuff. Central Europe is not my field of study at all.
