Robin is stunned when Jane and Cosmo won’t let him babysit his nephew Billy because of his drinking. His reaction turned mean when Jane gave him straight talk. Was he truly in denial or did he know, deep down, that he had a problem?

Jane and Cosmo loved Robin, but he has a serious problem and only this tough love approach was going to make an impression on him. I think he had to know he had a real problem.

Robin was so stunned when Jane and Cosmo said "no" to him babysitting Billy. I don't think he thought his drinking was that bad. I think he was in total denial.

Total denial.

He was in denial. In Robin's mind he just had a nip or two to relax. He drank more on social occasions but he never drank enough to deserve the way Jane and Cosmo were treating him. That's what all drunks think. "I can quit any time I want to."

Complete denial. All I could think of at that moment was how painful that had to be for Jane to say and for Robin to hear. I also got that his drinking had reached a dangerous level.

I wasn’t sure if Robin believed what he was saying but later on in the book it became clear he didn’t think he had a problem.
