A book about sheep or shepherds (because Psalm 23 starts "The Lord is my shepherd").

For years now, I've been meaning to read Three Bags Full, and somehow it just never happens. This is my year!!

Listopia here:

That's what I immediately thought of too.

Jennifer W | 1822 comments A few years ago, I read Sheepish: Two Women, Fifty Sheep, and Enough Wool to Save the Planet. I found it interesting and entertaining.

Jen W. (piratenami) | 517 comments My brain went right to Shepherd Book from Firefly, even though I know that's the wrong kind of shepherd! *lol* Might be a possibility to stretch this prompt, though.

You know, I thought of him when I was looking for books to put on the Listopia, but I couldn't find a good one that really featured him. I think it's exactly the right kind of book for this category!!

Jennifer W | 1822 comments I dunno, Jen, I think they were called Shepherds because of the Psalm, so it might be the most accurate interpretation! :)

Do goats count? I have Goat Castle: A True Story of Murder, Race, and the Gothic South in my pile, just because I couldn't resist the title...

Jennifer W | 1822 comments I just discovered that Independent People's MC is a shepherd. It's also on the 1001 books to read before you die.

Brandon Harbeke | 696 comments Since Jesus is known as the Lamb of God or the Good Shepherd, I would suggest the Gospel according to Matthew as a great choice for this prompt.

like Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal?

Bea | 648 comments I'm going to read The Trouble with Goats and Sheep by Joanna Cannon. This story does not have anything to do directly with sheep and shepherds, but it is the story of looking for a missing person. I think that fits the 23rd psalm idea.

I find Ayelet Waldman Mommy-Track mysteries to be easy enjoyable reads overall, so will read Bye-Bye, Black Sheep for this prompt!

message 15: by Ron (new)

Ron | 2708 comments Okay, this was easier than I thought. I'm going with the Book of Exodus in the Bible since Moses was a shepherd.

message 17: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1256 comments I stretched Hell Bent into this category.

message 18: by Trish (new)

Trish (trishhartuk) | 265 comments I have to say, I really enjoyed A Short History Of The World According To Sheep

message 19: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 117 comments The Sheep’s Tale: The story of our most misunderstood farmyard animal by John Lewis-Stempel. I haven't read this one but I've really enjoyed some of his other books.

A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami is another option.

message 20: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 502 comments The MC in Final Diagnosis is a shepherd. Who knew that book 10 in a scifi series about a space hospital would end up working for this prompt. 🤷‍♀️

Diana (candystripelegs) | 246 comments I was limited by my local library's kindle selection so I wound up reading, Sheep in a Jeep, which wound up being a really cute kid's book.

LOL that was one of my favorites when my kids were little!!! I think I enjoyed it more than they did.

Diana (candystripelegs) | 246 comments LOL. What a coincidence! I guess I have you to thank for discovering it. Without the mini challenge I never would have found it and now I'm thinking I might pick up physical copies of the series for my great niece.

LeahS | 491 comments I read The Sheep's Tale by John Lewis-Stempel.

An interesting look at sheep and sheep farming by a farmer and nature writer, with anecdotes about his own experiences, intelligence of sheep (surprising), animal welfare, and sheep farming v rewilding - lots on the benefits of sheep in a landscape.
