Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments Love the idea! Can't wait to get started.

You might want to check your maths in message one. (10 vs 12)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments Thanks, Janice, it looks very good and I can't wait to start planning and reading :)

message 9: by Ariane (new)

Ariane | 947 comments Thanks for this new challenge, Janice!
A quick question from a foreigner:
Read a book that is MPG Historical Fiction and set in England.
What is MPG? Thank you!

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments @Ariane: that means Main Page Genre: if type in the title of the book, you get the book page. On the right side of the page you see the genres. These are the Main Page Genres.

Argh! It looks like we'll have to have 7 badges. I will update later today because I slept in and need to get to work.

I did 120 tasks minus 12 = 108 divided by 18 = 6. That meant I needed 6 badges of 18, not 5. I was mistakenly thinking I needed 6 badges total.

Thanks Almeta! I need everyone to proof read for me.

Right. Thanks Saar for explaining that.

The genres need to be listed on the main page. There is a link that will take you to more genres that the book has been shelved under but they are not on the main page and won't be considered.

One hint - the main page genres change periodically because they are driven by crowd sourcing. If you need "Humour" listed and it is the bottom genre with perhaps 10 people shelving it, you may want to ask that your book be verified in the corresponding help section so you aren't disappointed if the genre disappears from the page.

message 17: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I found one link that didn’t work. Something about Symbolic things. Sorry, Janice. I noted it and moved on. I think there are some extra characters at the beginning.

I like some of the lists! If there is a list in each of the 12 puzzles, I might do those first. 😊

I can't replicate the problem Cherie. Give it another try.

message 19: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Dec 14, 2022 07:26AM) (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments I clicked on the symbolic link yesterday and it worked for me.

Edit: just checked again and it brought me to the "symbolism books" list. (puzzle 10 #8)

message 20: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Cherie, did you paste and copy the tasks? I'm wondering if it was truncated in the translation.

message 21: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11629 comments Another great challenge Janice, thank you so much! I'm off to gopher my first read of the new year 😊

message 22: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I've got my first read of the year lined up. Our real life book club meets on Jan 20th, and I realized the selection fits the teacher task, so I will start it first thing in January. It's True Biz and it looks really interesting. The woman who picked this book has a track record of finding really good books.

message 23: by Sue Q (new)

Sue Q | 334 comments So cool!!!!!

message 24: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments I've heard good things about that one, Janice. Hope you start off the year with a winner.

My real life book club is reading Yellow Wife in January. I should see if it fits somewhere. :)

message 25: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments It shows "Civil War" on the mpg, so you could possibly use it for that task.

message 26: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments Oh! I didn't notice that. Good idea! I think that's usually a tough task for me to complete too. Thanks!

message 27: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments I didn't have anything planned for puzzle 10 yet either. :) This year may be a better challenge year for me.

It's a hobby apocalypse!!! I think I may actually like this better than my typical Excel spreadsheet.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments A binder she says! Ohhhh - the next best thing to a spreadsheet.

I'm planning on making a reading journal, but have too many ideas. Seeing your planner motivates me to just do it, and pour my ideas later. Big thanks, Beth!

message 37: by Viji (new)

Viji | 1506 comments Janice, thanks a lot for another nice challenge. I am not good at crossword puzzles and was worried if I have to crack a crossword puzzle to participate in the 2023 challenge. I was delighted to find that the format is different and surprisingly I was able to work out more than 80% of the puzzles which was a bonus by itself! hahahaha!

I am yet to complete 6 more books to claim Badge 3 of the 2022 challenge. Once I finish that, I will start working on the 2023 Puzzles.

Just a reminder that the 2022 challenge ends on Dec 31 and can't be carried over.

Good luck in finishing it.

message 40: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Janice - the one with the broken link is in Puzzle 10, task #8. Symbolism or Symbolic something.
I click on the text and go nowhere. I am on my iPod. I haven’t logged into my laptop to try it yet. Everything else has worked except for this.
If I could copy/paste it I would but this app will not let me. It looks like it wants to go somewhere, but nothing opens.

message 42: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Maybe the issue is your iPod. Give it a try on your laptop.
