Sandra (sanlema) | 11263 comments Please read through the reporting thread carefully to ensure to report correctly to get your badge/s.

After you have read your chosen book(s) for this month's group theme read, please report in the thread below.

Please state what book you read (and link it), how it fits the theme, that you discussed it (and where), and briefly summarize what you thought of the book and/or link to your review if you have written one.

If you lead the discussion, please state this in your post.

Here is an example for how to report your read:

“I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and discussed it in the [Harry Potter/Buddy Read/Other books in theme] thread. I really enjoyed the book. I watched the film first so I already knew the story line but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the book more as there was more detail involved. Plus I listened to the audio which was narrated by Stephen Fry who is a superb narrator. 4 stars.”

If you read more than one book which fits the theme, please report all your reads in the same post rather than in separate posts.

Please note, there are THREE different badges that can be obtained for group reads. Those reading and discussing one of the two chosen group reads will receive a colorful badge similar to those for previous group reads. Those reading and discussing any other book in the theme will receive a stamp. The discussion leader for the two chosen group reads will receive a badge stating they led the discussion. Maximum amount of badges you can receive for the group reads is TWO - one for the chosen group read/discussion leader and one for any other book in the theme.

In order to receive a badge you must:
1. put your Wall of Fame Name at the beginning of your post as follows: WoF Name - Sandra
2. have read the book(s) before or during January 2023.
3. discussed it in the relevant thread. Discussion must be more than "I read the book and I liked it". Discussion requires something more substantial and analytical of what you read, for example, thoughts, opinions, impact it had on you, what was your favorite part, was it what you expected it to be like etc. You may also like to review the book and post a link to the review in that thread.
4. Report that you have read AND discussed the book.

I read Just Get Home and discussed it in the group thread. The first half of the book-I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I was invested. The second half kind of fell off for me. Not a topic I’m typically drawn to, disaster stories, but I’m glad I read it.

I read Just Get Home by Bridget Foley. I discussed the story in the appropriate thread. It was a fairly short read. I give the story three stars as it kept me reading. I was disappointed in the ending as it left me with lots of questions.

I read Just Get Home and was the discussion leader in the group thread. I really enjoyed the story, though parts of it were darker than I expected. I listened to the audio. It kept me engaged and I thought the narration was well done. I gave it 3.5 stars and rounded up. I'd read more by this author.

I also read and discussed Josh and Gemma the Second Time Around in the general theme thread. I enjoyed this story, but had to suspend my disbelief about certain things that were a core part of the story. Although I found that frustrating, I really enjoyed the writing and was happy to visit with these characters again.

I read The Jekyll Revelation which fits the theme but isn't one of the chosen books. I discussed it in the general thread.

The story is set in two timelines - modern USA, and 1880's England. The author cleverly connected the two time lines together through Robert Louis Stevenson and his writing of Jekyll and Hyde. He also made connections with Jack the Ripper. He's almost asking "what if".

Katrisa | 4460 comments I read Jackal and lead the discussion - though at this point it was just me talking to myself, lol! I hope someone else reads it because it was a good book!
I liked how the book flirted with the is it or is it not supernatural. I thought the ending was super fab. I tend to pretty gullible with thrillers so I was happy that I didn't fall for some of the red herrings, but the ending still surprised me. And then ending made me look back on some stuff and go "oooohhhhhh"

Kira (kiraa18) | 654 comments I read The Day of the Jackal - this was a political thriller about a professional assassin hired for a hit on the French President, Charles de Gaulle. It was quite fast paced and engaging. Tensions ran high throughout the book and we don't know about what would happen eventually right until the end. It was something very different from my usual picks so I enjoyed it a great deal.

I read Josee, the Tiger and the Fish and discussed it in the thread.
It's only 192 pages but I needed time to finish it. Some of the stories are good, the rest are so so. The stories are always started with a certain scenes that I think was so sudden thus I need to link the connections before swallowing up. Maybe that's just her writing style. I gave it 3 stars.

I read Jackal and discussed it in the thread. I finished the book in a weekend, which is uncommon for me. It explored some topics that interested me and kept me wondering what was really going on. I enjoyed the book, even though the reveal at the end didn't really work for me.

I read Things in Jars. I really enjoyed this book. It is an unusual mix of realistic historical fiction and magical realism. I loved the main character Bridge Devine - she’s a private detective with pathology skills. She was really interesting. I liked her so much I wish this was the beginning of a series.

I read Judgement on Janus for the Monthly theme
A great 70s, female written fantasy. The dangers of settling the frontiers of space. Was a great read, with strong characters both male and female, and I look forward to finishing the series for the February Challenge.
