We finally moved into the modern world and added Apple TV. Can anyone recommend anything from there? We're watching Ted Lasso at the moment but are there any good crime shows?

Ted Lasso is amazing! My SO has apple TV and says there's not much on there, other than Ted Lasso.

Isn't black bird on apple? I haven't seen it yet but I've heard it's very good!

As far as I know "Greyhound" with Tom Hanks is only available on Apple. I envy you!

My friend loves this series too Laura! Hoping it comes to one of the streaming services or channels I can access ☘️

Well, nothing like seeing this post ten days after you made it! I'll check that out. So far, we're still on Ted Lasso, but without the spouse I've been watching Pachinko. I didn't care all that much for the novel, but without it I'd likely be lost.

We enjoyed Jack Ryan, Bosch, Jesse Stone, 24, Three Pines.

What I like about it is that the age of the characters and the time period it's set in, the music and fashion, etc. all are a little too close to home. Haha.
Just finished season 2. Will probably watch some of season 3, this weekend when I'm over at my SO's place.

I've been playing catch up on Doctor Who now that we have HBOMax. The thirteenth doctor episodes have been ok but now that there's a story arc building I'm enjoying them more.
I've been watching the first two episodes of the second season of the 1960's spy show, The Avengers on Prime. (They don't offer the first season, which I take it was rather more mundane.) I've never seen the Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman) seasons that preceded the debut in America with Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel, so that's of interest. Also of interest is how well scripted yet how limited the shows were. You can see that it's mostly filmed on sets, lots of close-ups. The budgets, even for the time, must have minuscule.

That is probably my favorite series of all time!

It's one of my favorites, too, more so than the other spy shows on TV at the time, with the possible exception of The Wild, Wild West. I was probably 12 when it went off the air, and for a long time hoped something along the same lines would show up. I recall later being disappointed in Charley's Angels because they all seemed so fluffy, no match at all for Mrs. Peel. A couple flicks of her hand and they would all have been knocked out and tied up.

I'm watching all 514 episodes from "Peyton Place" (1964 - 1969). There's nothing better than classic TV series from the 1950's and 1960's. It beats all the boring TV series on nowadays TV.

And I think I'm among the last to get into Warrior Nun. All that intrigue and power and back-stabbbing, sometimes literal. To think I almost missed it because I had a problem getting through the initial teen character development.
For laughs, we love Ghosts on CBS/Paramount+.
Andor, even if you don't like Star Wars, makes for great distopian espionage viewing. (Disney+)

Learned a lot about a singer who, sadly, has been forgotten by many. Would recommend this documentary!
Her TV/Film credits included:
1938 – Going Places
1939 – St. Louis Blues
1942 – Some of These Days
1949 – Sugar Hill Times Episode 1.2
1958 – Jazz Party
1970 – The David Frost Show
1986 – Brown Sugar
1994 – A Great Day in Harlem

I think it was the 70s when NBC started a rotation of mystery shows - Columbo, MacMillan and Wife, McCloud - you can see some of the episodes on the nostalgia channels, especially Columbo.
Also there was a movie of the week show - feature length movies on TV. Later on a lot of the British detective shows went to this format, but these were original made for TV screenplays - a lot of them were in the mystery category
Honeymoon With a Stranger
How Awful About Allan
The Old Man Who Cried Wolf
A Taste of Evil
A Cold Night's Death
Dying Room Only
They even did some that got very famous, like Duel and Brian's Song, and a few that were TV series pilots like The Rookies, Kung Fu and The Night Stalker

The only nostalgia channels that I could find were TVLand, METV, FETV and Cozy TV. Encore Western Channel doesn't seem to exist any longer.
Are there more nostalgia channels?
Chrissie

I've never heard of it. Many of the classic TV shows from the 1950's and 1960's were not aired on German TV when I grew up. That's why I enjoy "Peyton Place" so very much.
Well, this news sucks -- Three Pines has officially been cancelled after only one season. I'll need a new season of something decent to look forward to. Suggestions?

I am sad to hear this. If you like Nordic Noir, try Deadwinds on Netflix. Finnish murder mystery. My wife and I enjoy both the books and the Gamache tv series.

Where I am we get Encore Western and Encore Black, Logo - you can also watch some of the NBC oldies like Columbo on Peacock and you can watch a lot of older shows for free on Youtube.

Started watching it last night and we're hooked. Thanks! 😊

You're Welcome. My wife doesn't watch anything with subtitles, so my nordic noir recommendations are just mine..

He's hard of hearing and I can finally understand in modern crime TV series what black gangsters are talking about.
I have a very hard time with accents. That's why I prefer film noir and old movies from 60+ years ago when every actor spoke understandable English.
All those newer movies on the first world war are basically wasted on me as I cannot understand Cockney accent.

I also use subtitles on many British films because of accents.

On Britbox: Also loved Karen Pirie, all 6 seasons of Inspector Lynley, Line of Duty, New Tricks (old but very fun), Death in Paradise.
On Acorn: Good Karma Hospital, Recipes for Love and Murder, Foyle's War, Candice Renoir, My Life is Murder.
Lots more on both platforms.
I also loved Derry Girls on Netflix!
Did you catch Dark Winds on AMC? Based on Tony Hillerman's Navajo mysteries. Very well done!

Oh thanks, Suzy! All of your Britbox recommendations I've seen -- I love Britbox, although I'm not so keen on the new show "Beyond Paradise." Sorry -- having the Martha storyline in that show makes me really want to roll my eyes.
Foyle's War -- A++
Loved Dark Winds -- I hope someone comes up with something to match its intensity.

Some other nordic noir shows that I recommend:
Bordertown--Finnish police mystery
Trapped and Entrapped Iceland mystery, seasons 1&2
Varg Veum--Norway PI, based on Gunnar Staalesen books

How about "Murder in Provence"? That sounds intriguing.
