- This book would have been a short story if Conan Doyle wrote it.
- Hastings sometimes gets on my nerve; why would he propose like that? At least the reply he got was one worth noting.
- For a debut novel in a long series, it is fairly well written, although I would've enjoyed a more mixed up plot. I don't like solving the mystery myself; I want to drop my jaw at what the detective says.
