Jade | 256 comments Hi, I have a suggestion. Maybe we could have a “similar to…” or "Reminding me of..." thread or topic? Where we could mention a book we enjoyed, and other posters could suggest books with a similar theme, writing style or both?

Books automatically suggested by Goodreads can be quite far from the original book, and older or less common books might not show up often, so it would be great to have a thread for actual personal suggestions.

Juels | 3312 comments I recommend using the Suggest Books For Me section. You can ask for similar plots, authors, themes, etc. . Other users can make suggestions based on your description. It's more free form than a request for a specific book.

There is also a Just to Chat section if you want to start a discussion.

Jade | 256 comments Yes, I know, but I was thinking about one big thread for "reminds me of..." suggestions(as having one for each book could turn into tons of threads), or maybe one for YA, one for non-fiction... Just something to think about :)

A better solution is to find a group that does that specifically. There must be dozens on GR. This looks like one:

SamSpayedPI | 2300 comments I think it would be more useful to look for these (or create them) in one of the Goodreads "fan" groups dedicated to specific genres that you enjoy.

For example, the MM Romance group has threads for "Looking for a book about…", "If you liked that…then you'd probably like this", and "What Do I Read Next?"

Members of a group like this have too many diverse interests—perfect for finding a wide range of books on various topics. But I doubt anyone would want to slog through 30 pages of recommendations for regency romances and YA post-apocalyptic dystopias if they're looking for locked-room mysteries. Better to join the English Mysteries Club and ask there.
