When Alexis returns from Huntsville, Noah consoles her and things get serious until he pulls back. She thinks it’s a rejection, he’s just trying not to take advantage of her in a weak moment. Why weren’t they able to talk this out as they’d always done? Was this a consequence of their fear of losing the friendship, baggage they both carried around or a combination of both?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I found it interesting that they talk in the book about one of my pet peeves with romance books--the inability for adults to talk like adults, then Alexis and Noah don't speak.

However, I understand Alexis. She is already on edge and feels rejected by her father's family. She has those concerns about being more than friends with Noah. Emotionally, she isn't ready for Noah to pull away, even if he wants to ensure her head is in the right place before taking the next step.

Noah does have a lot of baggage. I have to put some of the faults on him. He didn't do a very good job of letting her know he loves her. Noah could have yelled his feelings at her instead of allowing Alexis to walk away. When he realized his mistake, she was ignoring his efforts to talk.
