Aidan’s assistant Emily treats Reagan with contempt and disrespect. Reagan and her assistant Henry suspect Emma’s been searching her office and sabotaging her computer. Share your thoughts on Emily, her arrogance in her position and her obvious hatred for Regan. What’s her ultimate goal? Why is she tolerated? Was she ever on your suspect list of possible killers?

Emily wanted to diminish Regan in Aidan's eyes in order to make herself look more competent. She was a good assistant for Aidan, so she was tolerated until it became apparent that she was up to no good. She wasn't on my list; nobody was on my list. I didn't have a clue.

Emily was someone I wish had been added to Regan's murder list. I couldn't stand her. She wanted to make Regan and Henry look bad in Aiden's eyes. I think Emily thought if Regan was out of the way, she could make a move on Aiden without interference from the rest of the family. Emily wanted power.

Emily didn't know how to read the room. She had no idea that Aiden loved Regan and that nothing she could do would have changed that.

I really disliked Emily and I thought something more would happen with that. Actually, I thought that because Emily was on Regan's "to-do" list that the murderer had in his possession, he might get bored of trying to find Shields and go after Emily instead. TBH, I fully expected more murders just in general.

I agree, Jessica, something more should have happened with Emily. She was on Regan's list, just not her "Murder List".

I hate that we were told near the end of the book that Aidan had fired Emily. Why didn't we get to see it? I was waiting the whole book for Aidan to wise up and get rid of her.

Garwood does tend to not write some of the potentially more exciting scenes and that can be frustrating. Take the chapter where we meet Alec in the middle of a police operation. She ends the scene with the line, "It all went to hell then". End of chapter. The most exciting part described with one line and followed by the end of the scene.

I agree with you all. I wanted more from Aidan's firing of Emily...a big, exploding scene. It was kind of thrown in as a second thought...oh yeah, Emily's gone kind of thing. I honestly kept expecting Emily to get tangled up in things more than she did. She was petty and extremely disrespectful, but I thought maybe she'd end up in the whole murder thing.

I also wanted the big blow scene with Emily. Regan should have gotten her pound of flesh in the pages of the book. But Regan wasn't that kind of person, unlike me - I'm very blood thirsty.

In the beginning, Emily didn't know Regan was Aiden's sister, but she sensed that Regan didn't like her. When she discovered Regan was his sister, she feared she would sabotage her chance of becoming Aiden's wife. That was her ultimate goal, in my opinion. It seemed easy to damage Regan's reputation because the brothers didn't treat Regan as an equal. She never recognized the love they all had for each other.

I did expect Emily to be the first one killed; then they mentioned that she wasn't on the murder list. I hoped that the killer overheard the phone conversation with Emily. I wanted blood.

I wanted more than a sentence that Emily was fired too. Garwood missed a big opportunity here. I wonder if some of these misses are the result of editing. Publishers spend too much time counting pages instead of ensuring questions are answered.
