Welcome to the month of May and a new book for our Goodreads Book Club. This month we have a chosen a non-fiction title that was first published in 2017 and was a New York Times #1 bestseller. The film adaption of this book is set to have it's world premiere this month at the Cannes Film Festival.

Check out this video interview with David Grann where he is asked about his inspiration for writing this book.

♥ Sandi ❣	I have read this one and it is OUTSTANDING! Cannot wait for the movie. I find that anything that David Grann writes is very very good.

Missy | 1 comments I read this one also and it is one of my favorites of all time. It is heartbreaking, frustrating, maddening, and eye opening to this travesty. I hope all enjoys. It was a great book!

I too cannot wait for the movie to come out.

Kari Thorsdottir | 1 comments This was such an amazing book. I was sad and shocked to have learned about the tragedy and mistreatment of the Osage community. Very interested to learn it will come to film soon!

Lorie | 2 comments Such a fantastic book. Eye-opening and tragic, but important to tell. Can’t wait for the movie.

Mandy (mandymae_r) | 14 comments I read this one awhile back....here was my review/thoughts:
"The blood cries out from the ground". I think this quote pretty much summarizes this book. I have been reading a lot of sad stories/books lately about the awful things people do to each other. The greed, hate, evil that people can have is just terrible. And how so many people work together to get away with this evil......

This book did have some good people in it as well. This was an informative book that contained a history I wasn't specifically aware of, but not surprised by in the least. I listened to the audio book version and liked that three different people read this book as it was broken up into different parts and perspectives. I think it added to my enjoyment of the book.

I think it is a important book to read and always recommend it to people. I know Leslie put on hold a book kit full of the books for staff members who have either not read the book or want to read it again.

The audio book sounds great. There are some audio books that just elevate the story with how they are read. It make a good book into an excellent book by creating an enjoyable experience for the reader.

Thanks for your thoughts on the book as well.

Since it seems we are all excited about the movie coming out, this trailer hopefully whets some of the appetite until it releases in theaters!

Thanks so much for your comments Lorie! I also appreciate books that open my eyes to history. When we picked this book, the movie was supposed to be released this month, but we've since heard there will be a delay until October.

Hi Kari! We so appreciate you contributing to our discussion on this book. There's a quote by Professor Julius Lester that Sue Monk Kidd kept on her writing desk when she wrote "The Invention of Wings" that I think applies to this book as well. It is "History is not just facts and events. History is also a pain in the heart and we repeat history until we are able to make another's pain in the heart our own."

Thanks for contributing to our discussion Missy! What a powerful testimony that it is one of your all-time favorite books! I hope many others in our Goodreads community will pick it up this month!
