I've started Homegoing. I'm about 10% in, in Esi's chapter. This book is going to be good, but tough. Where are you?

I am 23% in, with Quey and Cudjo, and their "friendship"... I am interpreting it as a different way that will speak trouble for the two of them. Am i reading too much into it?

No, I don't think you are reading too much into it. :-)

I'm now 81% of the way into the book, will probably finish on Wednesday the17th. So far, this is a 4-5 star book for me. Although, I have one minor quibble with Yaw's chapter that I just finished. :-)

This book is one of those books that I don't want to end.

What an epic read!!

I am almost done and I don't know how much more my heart can take. I need SOME happiness!! lol

I know, I felt the same. It's just like life, some movement forward, some catastrophe that causes everything to fall backward, rinse, repeat. It's heartbreaking. Let me know what you think about the ending.

I finished part 1 & am enjoying reading about the different characters. Obviously, a lot of heartache but each of the characters seem to bring their own grit and determination. Should finish it up this weekend. It will be raining here, so I expect I'll get a lot reading done.

That's why I'm never too devasted when we have a rainy weekend. I'm eager to see what you think, Patricia. I really liked all of the different characters, and I thought the author did an amazing job of finding that space where you really feel for the characters, but aren't entirely broken after the reading experience. I always felt the overall hope.

Usually, I don't care for books that have too many viewpoints, but for some reason, this book worked for me.

I finished and gave it about 3.5. It took me a LONG time to read because, oof the heartache. But I loved the two viewpoints of Africa and America and how it all tied in at the end with the overlapping storylines.

I agree that so many viewpoints can be confusing, so I greatly appreciate the family tree in the front. I refer to it at the beginning of every chapter.

I just finished this and have to give it 5 stars. Sometimes I get frustrated when you start to get to know a character, and then the viewpoint totally changes, but I think it works in this book. I personally find it fascinating to think about the way families move along and change; how their histories effect the next generation, mostly without them ever knowing it. My ancestors didn't come over on slave ships, but they didn't come over on the Mayflower either. I often try to imagine what they went through to get here.--Anyway, very well done.

I agree; I was very concerned about the multiple viewpoints, because that doesn't always work for me. I think it worked here. I did have the audiobook, so I had to keep referring to the family tree online. It was tough reading, but I liked the ending, I felt like there was some hope there.
