Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I liked the story. I thought Kate was a tad too abrasive, but I loved how Dylan so deftly handled her.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Anita, It looks like I agree with you about nearly everything in this book. I loved Dylan. I thought Kate was a little too goody-goody, especially when she was going to give up the money because of the things Compton MacKenna said about her parents.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Is anyone else seeing a pattern with many of the books in this series? Around the 80% mark, the cops believe they've figured out who was trying to kill the heroine; but the hero doesn't agree. He usually gets pulled off the case, but sticks around to try to protect the heroine from whoever is still out there. I know it happened in at least 3 books in this series...maybe more.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Robin: Great minds think alike LOL! I have noticed that too. That is one of the problems with reading these books so close together: you can really see any patterns that the author uses.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments That's why I normally draw the line at three books by an author before giving myself a long break. I start seeing patterns in the writing...or notice the author using the same phrasing over and over.

My thoughts exactly! Same pattern. We'll see if it continues...or changes.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I liked this story, I liked both main characters. Kate is a typical small town girl. My dad was born in a small town in Kansas. I have a few cousins who are like Kate. They are a little goody two shoes.

I see the pattern too. I was expecting it. That is one of the reason I was surprised Dylan left Kate alone.

~Melissa~ | 429 comments I enjoyed this book. I liked the main characters and Kate's sisters. Isabelle was hilarious. I really felt for Kate with all she had dumped on her.
Dylan made me laugh. He really played things close to the vest for the whole book. I loved him 'reminding' Kate of all the lies she told his potential dates over the years.
I was shocked when we found out that Kate's mom included her business in the loan she took out for her bills. Was glad to find out at the end it was false. Her uncle and cousins were terrible.
However, I thought it was crazy that she wouldn't keep any of it or use it to get herself out of debt, help her sisters pay off college. It was nice that she wanted to donate to charity but she didn't need to donate all of it - regardless of whether she thought her uncle was odious. I had my sights on Vanessa or Terrence - never thought of Nat at all. Until he got so pissed that Dylan didn't let Nat know where Dylan or Kate were.

Jessica | 156 comments Melissa, I am right on with everything you just said. When Dylan was trying to lighten the mood and he said to Kate, "How much do you want to bet Anderson Samuel Smith never uses his initials?", I laughed right out loud.

I also think she should have used the money to get out of debt especially since it was her mother's debt. Wasn't that the point? To use the money in her mother's honor because that is exactly what her Uncle did not want. Paying off the debt would be right in line with that.
