Navy men don’t come tougher than Lieutenant Peter Greene. Every day he whips hotshot SEAL wannabes into elite fighters. So why can’t he handle one fifteen-year-old girl? His ex’s death left him a single dad overnight, and very unprepared. Though he can’t relate to an angsty teen, he can at least keep Maddie safe—until the day she disappears. Though Pete’s lacking in fatherly intuition, his instinct for detecting danger is razor sharp. Maddie’s in trouble. Now he needs the Troubleshooters team at his back, along with an unconventional ally.

Romance writer Shayla Whitman never expected to be drawn into a real-world thriller—or to meet a hero who makes her pulse pound. Action on the page is one thing. Actually living it is another story. Shay’s not as bold as her heroines, but she’s a mother. She sees the panic in her new neighbor’s usually fearless blue eyes—and knows there’s no greater terror for a parent than having a child at risk. It’s an ordeal Shay won’t let Pete face alone. She’s no highly trained operative, but she’s smart, resourceful, and knows what makes teenagers tick.

Still, working alongside Pete has its own perils—like letting the heat between them rise out of control. Intimate emotions could mean dangerous, even deadly, consequences for their mission. No matter what, they must be on top of their game, and playing for keeps . . . or else Pete’s daughter may be gone for good.

Book Discussion

Cindy (BKind2Books) (bkind2books) | 189 comments This was a great ending (?) to the series - although it feels incomplete to me. I'm hoping that there is more to come but after 6 years I'm beginning to wonder. I loved this one! And I'm never looking at garages the same.

There was a time when I held out hope that she would return to this series. She’s even commented on my rereads on Twitter. But, I’m sure she’s done.

Cindy (BKind2Books) (bkind2books) | 189 comments Boo… I figure after so long that it’s unlikely. There are several characters that need their story told (Lopez, for instance) not to mention all those new ones she introduced just to leave them twisting in the wind (all the Johns)

Totally agree…I’d love it if we could get some of the other stories!

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1129 comments Lopez is the character I am most disappointed that they never got a book. He was such a wonderful supporting character and what little we get to know about him is fascinating.

When I first read this book, I thought she was picking up the series again, but there has been nothing since.

So did I, Anita. She wrote another book, Do or Die that was a spinoff into a new series, Reluctant Heroes. There were crossover characters and I loved the story. But then nothing.

Agree with you all about Lopez.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1129 comments Are there going to be discussion questions? I haven't started the book, but it's a reread for me so I won't take me long and I've got both the e-book and the audio.

Anita, I had put this on the back burner because no one was participating in the discussions for the last few books. I’ll definitely create them if you’re interested, especially since this is the last book in the series! I’ll post them this weekend.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1129 comments Thanks, Jonetta! I got behind this summer, but now that all the grandkids are back in school, I have more time.

Oh, I’m the queen of getting behind so not throwing stones. I just didn’t want to do them if folks weren’t interested. Now that you say you are, I’m happy to create them.

Still catching up on Orphan X!

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments I'm still trying to catch up with this series. I found most of the books I need at the flea market, but since I'm behind everywhere, I need to find reading time instead of listening time.
