“The first time she slit a man’s throat she felt sick to her stomach. The second time? Not so much.” This is the opening passage to the story. What were your thoughts upon reading this? How does it set the tone for the story?

I was confused. I questioned "is this about a hit woman?" It took me a reread to understand she was a surgeon.

I thought we were getting a ringside seat of a killer.

It made me remember the main female character in Mercy who was also a surgeon.

I just looked it up and the first line of Mercy was, "The girl was just plain amazing with a knife."

I think because Mercy was my favorite Julie Garwood book (I've read it twice and listened to it once) I remembered that line and wasn't surprised by those lines in The Ideal Man.

Good point Jessica. I do like the way Garwood starts the stories.

My first thought was "what a villain!!" But I quickly realized it was the heroine. I love Garwood's unique prologues & intros to each story. I feel she really sets a tone with them.
