Austenesque Lovers TBR Challenge 2023 discussion

For this month, the Group Read challenge will be two-part.

First, you will do a word association game with the below list of words/phrases by starting a new comment with the word on the left and your book picks on the right. Your book title picks are whatever book came to mind when you saw the word.
BUT... here's the trick: your book title picks must be Austenesque books that you still have to read.
Now, they don't have to actually be books on your shelf though, of course, those would be a good choice. Library or borrowed books you have on your wish list can count just so long as you can get them in time.

You need to make your book list by October 1st and leave it in the comments

I finished my first challenge book, the unpublished category: An Overabundance of Tom Bertrams by Ameline Duchannes XI

This was a time travel romance mashup of The Time Traveler's Wife and Mansfield Park. Tom is cursed with inadvertent time travel which lands him anywhere along his life's timeline and often a Tom of various ages visits Fanny Price starting when she turns 16. This was my first Tom and Fanny romance scenario and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. That said, I was most distracted by different aged Toms popping into and out of her life. It was four chapters (novella length) and I'll give it 3.5 stars for clever plotting.

The author has a few more Tom and Fanny JAFF stories that are more straight up historical romance variations so I'll check them out, but, in the meantime, I've started my Secondary Character challege pick and my Dance challenge picks.

I went for one in the Minor Character category featuring Kitty Bennet and Colonel Fitzwilliam, His Inconvenient Choice: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Leenie Brown.

A sweet read, a continuation of a series, although I found the behaviour of the earl rather OTT. I think there were a few factual errors also in relation to succession. Nonetheless it was a pleasant read.

I'll probably finish my The Darcy Files. I put a few of the others on my November list so I can read some ARCS, too.

So I ended up not doing all the ones I listed because I got sick in the middle of the month and didn't have the energy to read. Some are ones I didn't have on my list before and I didn't make all the categories like I wanted but it was fun.
