Apologies for talking about March in October. I feel like that person who gets excited for Christmas in July 😅.

I read this back in 2020. I remember really liking it although there is some pretty intense violence.

I plan on reading it again to see if it lives up to my initial reaction.

I read this a few years ago and loved it. I might revisit it on audio.

I gave it 3 Stars last year, but wavered between giving it 4 Stars.

It is a great book, but those child torture scenes are rough and forced me to take a Star off 😕

Oof that doesn’t sound good. I can take a lot of violence and horror in my books but since becoming a mother I can’t bear reading about violence against children. I may need to sit this one out.

^ Yeah, that was a red flag for me as well. I may pull up A Night In The Lonesome October again. Just the right level of silly creepiness for Halloween.

This is absolutely an amazing pick. It is a mind blower of a novel.

The child violence is biblical like. In the Bible, All the first-born dies because they did not spread sheep blood on the door. Our local S&L group read it as a alt pick back when we read The Last Unicorn because our group read that when Peter S. Beagle blew into town with the movie. I really liked it for one scene involving tigers.

I loved this. Loved it. I might even re-read it to join this discussion.

I liked this book a lot …. despite the violence and torture. The story is really good and the world building unfolds in a propulsive way. Good choice.

Do you mean the lions? They were awesome.

This book is amazing. I keep waiting for the author to write something else but don’t know if he has since.

Well, I agree with you. That was one of my favorite parts of the book.
