Olivia’s father and lawyer Carl Simmons start spreading rumors to influential people that she’s unstable and needs hospitalization. Why are they determined to have her committed? What will it accomplish? Simmons threatens Olivia’s life if she doesn’t stop investigating her father. Why is he determined to stop her? Was he on your list of suspects?

If she is committed they can petition to control her finances. Spreading their lies will also slander Olivia's reputation and discredit her. Simmons is up to his eyeballs in Roberts shady business. If Robert goes down, Simmons goes down also. Simmons was on the top of my list of suspects.

I did not really understand this way of thinking that they could possibly think they could get away with having her committed. She has too many people on her side to say she is sane. However, they needed her out of the way to get to her aunt and finances and to stop her from finding out the evidence needed to convict him.

Ditto to the above statements. He was trying to save his own ass from loosing money and going to jail.

Another unbelievably terrible, selfish father in this one. And the lawyer was just creepy.

I agree. They were committed to keeping their illegal shenanigans secret. If they can get people to question Olivia's mental health, the public won't believe her accusations.

There are a lot of corrupt lawyers who get pulled into their clients schemes. The many consigliere is a good example. They profit from the Don's misdeeds.

They're afraid Olivia will eventually get some proof of what her father has been up to all of these years. They want to discredit her before she comes forth with any information. If she has a history of being unstable and making up stories, people won't believe her when she tells her story.
