Besides humans, there are three types of creatures in the world of All Souls: witches, vampires, and daemons. Each creature has different powers. If you could choose, which type of creature would you like to be and why?

message 2: by Kristy (new)

Kristy | 9 comments I would have to say Witch, they get to cast spells and I have always loved the ideas of witches.

message 3: by Eleanor (new)

Eleanor St Clair | 4 comments Definitely a daemon! They are so creative! This chapter I am writing would probably have been finished by now...

message 4: by Angela (new)

Angela | 9 comments Daunting dietary practices aside, I'd like to be a vampire for the preternatural senses and the accumulation of knowledge, experience, relationships, wealth, etc. In real life, I'm human with daemon tendancies. :)

message 5: by Shauna (new)

Shauna | 2 comments A witch, I like the knowledge passed down generation to generation. I would like having a sense of being different and special and working on my powers. Family is important to me just like it is to witches.

message 6: by Christina (new)

Christina (riawyn) | 2 comments I would be a vampire so I could live many different lives.

message 7: by Monica (new)

Monica (queenbeeofswain) Definitely witch :)

message 8: by Jean (new)

Jean | 10 comments I'm one of THE daemons. ;-)

message 9: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 26 comments Wow, what a hard choice! I think it would have to be witch. Being able to cast spells would be amazing (no more housework! WooHoo!)

message 10: by Nancy (new)

Nancy | 4 comments Definitely a witch.

message 11: by Terri (new)

Terri Garner | 7 comments Weaver Witch...oh the special ways to weave!

message 12: by Bickiana (new)

Bickiana (bickiana423) | 2 comments A witch hands down. The spells are cool but I think the ability to feel connected to an element makes it a much more appealing choice to me.

message 13: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (scharle4) I would have to say a witch for their abilities to foresee the future, call on the elements and cast spells.

message 14: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 51 comments I'm torn between witch and vampire.

The elemental pull draws me to saying witch. However, being immortal and living many different lives seems appealing.

message 15: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 8 comments Definitely a daemon!!!

message 16: by Sue (new)

Sue | 2 comments that's a really tough question to answer. I see real appeal in all 3 options. I'd love the time that a vampire has to study and learn and to live many lives. I love the creativity and unpredictability of daemons. I love the discipline and connection (to one another and to the world) of witches.

Tonight, I'll say daemon, but that's subject to change.

message 17: by Florence (new)

Florence Saenz | 2 comments Well, if I can't be a vampiric witch, I would want to be a witch. I would like to be able to control all the elements and be able to time walk. I'm not sure a vampires diet would appeal to me!

message 18: by James (new)

James E. | 2 comments I was in Boy Scouts fifty-some years ago; when I became a Patrol leader we chose to be called the Vampire Patrol. My allegiance to that orientation continues. Like Angela, I am attracted to the vampire's life because it allows "the accumulation of knowledge, experience, relationships, wealth."

message 19: by Dominique - (new)

Dominique - | 3 comments Well I would just love to be a Witch. Not only for the power but for the support of a Coven. They provide moral support along with magical support. Who wouldn't want to have someone helping you if and when you screw up?

message 20: by Adrianne (new)

Adrianne | 3 comments I would choose vampire for long life, money, knowledge

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Lisa, I'm with you. No housework is pretty irresistible. Of course, vampires don't have to clean up the kitchen and daemons probably don't notice a mess! It's a real testament to Deb's talents that her creatures are so distinct and appealing.

message 22: by LizaLoveReads (new)

LizaLoveReads Vampire without a doubt! Beauty, wealth, superhuman abilities, never having aches and pains, all of it is very alluring. And of course boys like Edward Cullen, Eric from True Blood and Matthew Clairmont to date :)

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Eliza wrote: "Vampire without a doubt! Beauty, wealth, superhuman abilities, never having aches and pains, all of it is very alluring. And of course boys like Edward Cullen, Eric from True Blood and Matthew Clai..."

It's true, Eliza! Why are all the best ones vampires?

message 24: by Lisa (new)

Lisa L-B | 14 comments Definitely a witch because I've always wanted the ability to heal. Also, the possibility of living forever is not at all appealing. Plus, vampires have way too many social rules that I would find irksome.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

So far we are eleven witches, five vampires, and four daemons. Certainly enough to cause the humans to notice us if we were to all gather together. Besides Diana and Matthew, is there a particular creature who speaks to you? I definitely have a soft spot for Hamish!

message 26: by Julie (new)

Julie Noel | 6 comments Definitely not a vampire, just can't get past feeding off humans. But witch....to be able to interact with the world on another level, not just to have power or to be able to exert control, but to see things and understand them in a different way is very intriguing. The study and disciline attracts me also.

message 27: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 51 comments I have a soft spot for Gallowglass.

message 28: by Lisa (new)

Lisa L-B | 14 comments I really liked Annie. She was the one character who I wished had a different ending.

message 29: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 8 comments I loved Philippe for his strength and duty to his family. I would love to read more about his journey through the millennia, and his relationship with Ysabeau.

message 30: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 6 comments Julie wrote: "So far we are eleven witches, five vampires, and four daemons. Certainly enough to cause the humans to notice us if we were to all gather together. Besides Diana and Matthew, is there a particular ..."

I know he's not in ADoW, but Gallowglass, definitely.

message 31: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 26 comments For ADoW, it would be Marcus. He's such a good son to Matthew but fun and a little goofy.

message 32: by Joanna (new)

Joanna | 13 comments i would be an earth witch. however have a soft spot for gallowglass

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

It looks like Gallowglass gives Matthew a run for the money in terms of being the most alluring vampire of the series. First-time readers will have to wait until the next book to meet him, but it will certainly be worth the wait!

message 34: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (barbaradesimone51gmailcom) | 32 comments Tgis is tough. To live forever would be a double edged sword. It would be wonderful to have so much time, but horrible to keep losing the people in your life. Plus I love food... Being an element as l witch would be great and I definitely agree with the housework option. I also love Gallowglass.

Anyone else struck by the curious name "Amen Corner"? I've certainly wondered about it. Now, here's a piece in today's New York Times!

Barbara (barbaradesimone51gmailcom) | 32 comments Julie-sorry I hit the wrong button. I did wonder about "Amen Corner". That was very interesting.

It's fun to uncover something like this--and impressive to think about the variety of places where Deb finds inspiration!

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

Now it would be one thing to be a vampire, but if you were a warmblood--be it human, witch, or daemon--and fell in love with a vampire, would you want to become a vampire yourself or would you prefer to lead a mortal life and enjoy what time you had together?

message 40: by LizaLoveReads (new)

LizaLoveReads I'd become a vampire to be together forever, and also to increase my awesomeness factor. And so he wouldn't be in pain afterwards.

I would want to definitely be sure it was true love before committing to eternity. If so, I think becoming a vampire would be the way I would go. It's not like they are monsters (most of them anyway!) I think of all the good things that could be done if you had no limit to your lifetime. It is interesting that there is no mention of witches or daemons being turned into vampires. I wonder what happens to their abilities if they are turned?

message 42: by LizaLoveReads (new)

LizaLoveReads I was wondering the same thing Lisa! I wasn't too sure about Diana's future and why she wouldn't want to be turned. Also even if I turned for someone and it didn't work out it would still be cool :D

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to go back and look, but I believe there's a very slight reference to this in ADoW. Before she was turned, Ysabeau had some abilities that may have been magical in nature and was regretful because they disappeared after the became a vampire. Anyone else remember this?

message 44: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 51 comments I do recall reading this in ADoW, too, Julie. I think it is near chapter 20. Ysabeau had some magical abilities (she had visions and Marthe helped her learn to control her abilities). When she became a vampire, it seems that she lost these abilities. Diana asked her if she was a witch; and Ysabeau responded that she was a human.

Thanks, Melissa! The risk of losing one's original powers seems to be part of the gamble.

message 46: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (barbaradesimone51gmailcom) | 32 comments I think that is a part of Diana's reasoning. She has finally accepted herself as a witch and a powerful one I don't want to spoil anything, but what happens in the books could not happen if she became a vampire. Plus I don't think that Matthew would allow it. However, this does come up in Discovery of Witches near the end-don't want to spoil.

message 47: by LizaLoveReads (new)

LizaLoveReads This is something I want to ask Deb about at the book tour. Like at the end of the last book...what does Diana's future look like? Morality/immortality wise. Also there was a disclaimer about spoilers in this group so I'm not TOO worried about it haha I think most people here have read them all.

Yes, Ysabeau had visions. But they don't know for sure if D would lose her abilities, given her unusual genetic makeup. Even if she would lose some or all of her abilities, I think it would be worth it to be with the love of her life forever. Maybe she could wait until she was a little older. (Is that what happened to Marthe?? Why was she so old when turned? How did she know how to help Ysabeau with the visions?)So many questions!!

Eliza wrote: "This is something I want to ask Deb about at the book tour. Like at the end of the last book...what does Diana's future look like? Morality/immortality wise. Also there was a disclaimer about spoil..."

I wouldn't worry too much, Eliza. We don't want to give away too much, but it is a re-read. I think the fact that some of the group have read the series four or five times proves that the storyline is compelling even when you know exactly what's going to happen!

message 50: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 26 comments Eliza wrote: "I was wondering the same thing Lisa! I wasn't too sure about Diana's future and why she wouldn't want to be turned. Also even if I turned for someone and it didn't work out it would still be cool :D"

It seems the main reason Matthew wouldn't be inclined to let her be turned was that it would change her from what he loved. It seems pretty strange. I mean I guess we don't know what most of the other vampires were like before being turned. They only really talk about Matthew and Marcus as humans and they both turned out great. Sure Matthew's gotta deal with blood rage, but he has done a great job of getting a handle on it, only a few of his family members even knew he had it. Marcus is awesome! I know Matthew would never make Diana a vampire himself because of the risk of blood rage, but I can't figure out why he wouldn't want to have her forever.
