Alissa Patrick (apatrick12211) | 1806 comments "Alissa's 2nd List of Books I Own Because.... Fear of Missing Out" lol I blame Jen and Lindsey for posting 75 lists apiece , and me knowing I have enough books I own to fill another list.

Sigh. ;-) The first 12 are Book of the Months ones I've chosen and also swapped for, and my alternates are books I own that I've gotten from library sales.

I'm impressed; Bentley Little!?? I see you, Alissa!

Lone Women was really good. I should have done a better review, but the book blurb is sufficient. It was not too scary or creepy; to me.

Good luck with this 2nd list!

Lea (leaspot) | 3638 comments What a list! Unfortunately, the only book on it that I read, I didn't like very much. It was probably just me, though. The other books look great and I'm eager to see what you think. :-)

I didn't mention the book because I didn't want to stop you from reading it. It's an important book, I am glad I read it...but...it just isn't what I enjoy reading. I hope you have a different experience and can explain to me why I should be loving that author. :-)

message 17: by Lillie (new)

Lillie | 1686 comments Your list is why I shouldn't look at these lists. Now I want to add them all based on the covers alone. Sigh.

I've read only one of the books and, unfortunately, I wasn't the right audience for it. But I've heard so many people rave about it, so I hope it hits right for you.

Can't wait to see your reviews on these books. Enjoy!

I know a lot of people really loved Normal People but it left me so angry, at the characters, the story, and the author. I admit that I hate read it after a while. I will never willingly read another of the author’s books.

But having said that, I think I’m in the minority. It’s a favorite of a lot of people. I’m also a hater of The Secret History so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I admit, I hope you don’t change it Alissa just so we can hear your take on it. Buuuut, for your own sanity, you may want to switch books.

I can only think of 2 books in the last decade that I continued hate reading all the way to the end, Normal People being one. I usually DNF books that make me 😡 . The other book was Fifty Shades of Grey. Only read it cause of book club. That one I wanted to rip to shreds and burn it. I returned it to the library instead, lol

Lea (leaspot) | 3638 comments I hated the Fifty Shades series too, but had to read it because it was a GRC Award one year.

I think Rooney is worth reading. There is a large group of people who think she's amazing, and you have to figure out for yourself where you stand. :-) And Normal People is 9 million times better than Beautiful World, Where Are You in my opinion.

I read this BOTM choice with Lindsay and I wouldn't be surprised if we both had the same exact bald spot on our heads from scratching it so hard. What in the hell was this book lol

Sarah is THE most unreliable narrator I have ever read, and after every chapter I found myself more confused as I just could not take any of what she was saying and doing as the truth. In this case, the confusion worked but unfortunately it fell flat for me at the very end and felt it could have been "cleaned" up a bit more smoother.

I am in a Book of the Month Swap Facebook group and this was one I swapped for, and then put it on my bookshelf and stared at it, then chose other books lol

Pick this one up! It's a thriller that is definitely more "mystery" than "thriller' and it reads super fast. The whole way through is a series of WHAT is going on and WHO is that and then finally ... wait... WHAT???

It certainly was not perfect but it was super enjoyable, and bonus points for the kidnap victim being a guy instead of a woman.

What is it about the words "road trip" make it an instant pick for me?? I think thats why I chose this as my Book of the Month pick for Nov 2022 but then of course in true Alissa- fashion, I got it and then it was a pretty book to look at on my shelf while I ignored it and chose others. Then I chose this one finally and I am glad I did!!

This does have magical realism in it so if it's not your bag, you may want to skip it. However, for me it worked- a story about two
estranged sisters with special gifts- Zadie is a psychic who has refused to use her gift after their mom walked out on them 5 years prior, and spunky sassy Finn can view and experience other peoples memories.

I love a good family drama and then you throw in the hot mess express of a road trip to go try and find their mom all the while two sisters - one who can feel the past and one who can but won't see the future- are trying to also find their way back to each other. Such A GREAT story and I really liked this one!

I grabbed this paperback from a Little Free Library a few years back because while I have heard of Bentley Little I have never read any of his work.

This book was decent- the beginning was slow for but it really picked up at the end. I love me a good cult story lol
I hope to hear more of his work!

This one was just okay. The premise is interesting- a former child star who just up and disappeared to her parents home for a whole year decides to return to Hollywood and see if she can get her life back. But many terrible things (& people) happened to her and she's struggling to find herself again. I wanted to rate this higher but it did end with so many unanswered questions, but overall it was a decent read!

::head scratches:: I liked it, but I can't say I would recommend it. The main character is extremely unlikable and she's just extremely selfish. She doesn't care who she hurts as long as she gets what she wants. This had a very toxic love triangle in it that was cringy and at times hard to read about. But hurray that I got another BOTM book done! =)
