Here is the place to discuss retellings, traditional tales, or books that contain Shapeshifters.
Examples: Werewolves, Kitsune, Werecats, Werehyenas, Tanuki, Skinwalkers, Nanaue, and more

The fox wife sounds very interesting! I don't expect it'll get much buzz though... I hope the softcover comes out next year, too!

Well, I was not expecting to use this book for the challenge. I read it because I have enjoyed other books by the author and always wanted to read this one! However it turns out that Lagoon by Nnedi Okoraforfeatures shapeshifting aliens!

I love it when that happens!

Other book’s I recommend with shapeshifters that I personally enjoyed were:
My favourite Someplace to Be Flying by Charles de Lint, as well as his newer book The Wind in His Heart or his YA book The Painted Boy or series Under My Skin
The Wood Wife by Terri Windling

Erin (erindarrow) | 57 comments May be a bit of an imaginative leap but I counted Her Radiant Curse by Elizabeth Lim. There are aspects of shapeshifting in dragons and demons and the main character is impacted by her curse in a way, too.

I'd also recommend Six Crimson Cranes by the same author. Inspired in part by The Wild Swans, the main characters' brothers are turned into cranes and she must break the curse to rescue them.

Another inspired by The Wild Swans is A Rush of Wings by Laura E Weymouth set in historic Scotland.

For something a little different with people turning into statues (and vice versa), Leanne Schwartz's A Prayer for Vengeance is a secondary world that feels very Greek or Roman-myth adjacent and is quite a short standalone read.

I’m also reading The Fox Wife by Yangsze Choo for the second book for this prompt

That’s happened to me a number of times too and it’s so annoying!
All I know is it is always when I reply, but I have no idea why!

Jamie Zaccaria | 57 comments I read Squad.

4 stars: A delightful girly pop horror graphic novel for fans of Mean Girls, Jennifer's Body, and of course, werewolves.

That one is a lot of fun.

Erin (erindarrow) | 57 comments I just had the most random thought, which was: Would Mirrored Heavens count for this? Given...things I maybe shouldn't say which are spoilers.

Absolutely! Xiala turns into a mermaid and Serapio into multiple crows! I counted it for water creatures but it could easily be shape shifters

Erin (erindarrow) | 57 comments I'm not sure why it took me so long to come to that realization!! Any of the books from the series would be a good fit for this category then. I still remember reading for the first time of Serapio being crows and how magical and mesmerizing that moment was.
