Cheryl (cherylllr) We don't celebrate much of anything in our family anymore. But it's so hard not to think 'maybe we should' given all the marketing for Christmas and other 'winter holidays.' Or at least to remember when we did....

If you had a time machine and could go back to some holiday or celebration in your past, would you? To relive a joyous birthday, maybe? Or to change the guest list at a certain Thanksgiving? Or to see grandma when she was a slip of thing some Easter, in her bonnet & frock?

My childhood Christmases (always on Christmas Eve) at my grandma's house were very happy occasions, the highlight of each year. Now that my grandpa has died (in September) and my grandma isn't living in that house anymore, I am especially nostalgic for those years.

It would be great fun to be able to go back and see what my dad and his four siblings were like as kids. I've heard stories all my life about that wild bunch so it would be amazing to see it in person. And then I could visit with my great-grandma and ask her all about her life.

Cheryl (cherylllr) I was living on the other side of the country when my youngest brother was a teen, and I have no idea how he got from the brat he was to the success he is now. If I could only pick one day, I'd like to observe his high school graduation.

If I could change one thing, I'd spend a day to try to get to know my aunt J. better. Everyone said such wonderful things about her when she passed, and I just didn't know.

Cheryl (cherylllr) That's a good point. Nothing to do with holidays, but I definitely agree.

Lizz Taylor | 218 comments I would love to go back in time with a huge notebook and make lots of notes while Grandma tells me all of the family stories. It would be around Christmas time so I could have some of her delicious food and baked goods!

Cheryl (cherylllr) Lovely! I am reminded of my grandmother's filled cookies that she made for Christmas; I cannot find anything like them online so I'd love to go back for the recipe.
