Okay - I'm on Chapter Ten. So far, finding the characters really spoiled and annoying, but I think I'm supposed to find them superficial and annoying. Still reading...
Chapter 32 (71%) I have to say that I love this book, thank you Mia. I guess this is a new side of me but I'm actually enjoying how much I dislike Ellis and Hank. I think by this point others may have come to the same conclusion that I have about Ellis' feelings for Hank. I love how I'm drawn into the story and Maddie's character development. At this point I almost want to stop reading it so that I can finish the story my way in my head.
I'm now at 80% (You're welcome!) And I'm also enjoying Maddie's character development (even though it seems to be leading to a predictable place) and suspicions about Ellis and Hank and how just plain despicable they are. I suspect tonight will be one of those nights when I stay up too late to finish reading it! Or at least finish in the AM.
Okay - finished! I liked Maddie's character development overall, although I did feel that the plot was tied up a little too neatly, and I'd hoped that Maddie could develop into more than a general love interest. I found the random insertion of war data to be a little clumsy, and the intimate scenes were a little cringe-worthy. Overall liked it, though! Even though that makes it sound as if I didn't! :-)
Finished - I feel much the same as Mia. I'm just so amazed at how invested I was in the story. I could forgive the very predictable conclusion for the sake of Maddie's character growth. I find that the conclusion was far too kind to Ellis and especially harsh to Hank. Not that I cared much for Hank. I'm going to read Water for Elephants to see if the author can pull me in again.
