3.5/5 leaning on 4. Nancy Springer's books are very engaging and full of interesting period tidbits. As a fan of Sherlock Holmes, it is also very fun to see her characterisation of the sleuth and of his brother Mycroft.

3/5. A well-written but pedestrian book. The romance is pretty poorly written and the solution to the mystery was in my opinion quite obvious. Still, the setting and the way it was written were enough to keep me entertained.

3.5 The historical setting is fascinating and the characters are well developed. However, the plot of the book takes a hard turn towards the pulpy (which I wouldn't mind, I like this kind of thing normally, but when the book is selling itself as a detective novel, it gets a little offputting). Still, it was a fun read. I might revisit the series.

4/5 Lovegrove is a great writer of Holmes pastiches and this one blending in Greek Mythology in the story was a great bit of Holmesian pastiche. My favourite from him so far.

4/5 Definitely more of an emphasis on the historical than the mystery here, but it was a very good book and very engaging. I could have done with better female characters, though. That's the main thing that prevents me from giving it a 5.
